422 or 434 in 85 Trans Am
I'm considering doing a conversion, and putting in a MTI or similar 422 or 434 stroker motor in my 85 Trans Am. I was going with a single turbo LT1...but moving and two other car payments, it just didn't seem like realistic project to have done next year. I can pick up a LS1 for cheap, but I haven't decided whether or not to do a LS1 or an iron block, with LS1 or LS6 style heads for strength. I want some solid 9 second passes...car should weigh in around 3000 lbs. Any suggestions, advice?

If you are looking for solid, reliable 9s, I'd opt for an iron-block setup and nitrous. If you want to run reliable 9s all-motor, go with an aluminum block setup, a TH400 with a brake and some good suspension tuning.
Iron blocks are only like $500 new. Pretty cheap. A resleeved block is about $2000. Difference is 80 lbs.
Find a 6.0L LQ4 iron block. Bore it out to 4.030" (4.00 is stock)
Forged pistons
4" forged stroker crank
billet rods
MTI Stage 3 LS6 heads
LS6 intake
MTI S1 camshaft
ARP head studs
Jesel rockers
You would have a bulletproof 408ci that could probably handle 300+ hp doses of nitrous with a proper fuel system. EASY 9s.

Re: 422 or 434 in 85 Trans Am
Well, I want it to be a street car, but it won't be driven very much at all. So I was seriously considering a solid roller setup for the car, with the iron block and some n2o, and not get too carried away with compression ratio. I'd like to stick to 92 pump gas, but I don't think that'll hit 9's. The cars suspension will basically be stock style, fully adjustable BMR stuff. I want the car to look mean and aggressive on the street...but turn the times at the track, w/out having a full out soggy drag setup. I'm hoping maybe...500-550rwhp n/a, if I'm lucky, with around 11:1 compression. Or, I'm considering saying screw it, do 12.5:1 compression, and just keep it filled with race gas and n2o! I forgot to mention my desire for 140+mph trap speeds, and a M6 trans. I know you've got a wicked ride, what would you do if you wanted what I mentioned.
