Default This Decade?

I'm wondering when hot rod retail joints are going to step up to this decade. My local place is all set up to get you anything you need to build up a pre-LT1 SBC. Hasn't it been like 10 years since GM put an SBC in anything? You go into these place and say "anything LS1" and they look at you like you are talking in Greek.

Aside from lawn care equipt does anyone use the carburator for anything? Why don't these clowns step up to the modern era. The demise of the carb in favor of EFI was the single best improvement in automotive history and the LS1 betters the prev gen SBC in every way.

If I didn't already have a job I think I'd have to open a performance joint that served cars from this century.

Actually the ls1 is a SBC so yes they have. Most drag racers still use carbs and older SBC because they are cheaper. LS1 and LT1's are great but they are VERY expensive compared to a regular old SBC.

I agree with irondonut. People give me a hard time for choosing to go with an LS1. They say other buildups are cheaper. Meanwhile they are perfectly content tuning their carbed POS engine every weekend. All the while claming they can make more power. What a crock!

If they got with the program the LS1 aftermarket will pick up and prices would come down.

I've owned both carbed stuff and EFI stuff. I have to say my experience has been that the EFI stuff works better in every way. I think the head-setup and the alum construction are superior to the older hardware.

Besides isn't it cool to jack in a laptop and datalog your setup and tune from the keyboard? There is no guessing it's all there in black and white.

The technology sure is great. I am hoping they will come out with processor and software upgades for the LS1 PCM. There must be more horsepowere lurking in these engines if the sensors can be sampled at higher rates.

..Before commencing to go down to my dealer, I've got to do my homework and make sure I have part numbers, etc. etc.. But, I'm glad I took the plunge and bought LS1. You get darn good mileage, with the beauty of EFI (my carbureted 400 SBC got between 6 & 10 mpg) and the experience of tuning your own computer controlled setup! It's great!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Just about every shop you see on that sponsor column to your right specializes in LS1s. THEY know what the newest trend is.

Those old-school carb'd trailer queens at the track were absolutely SICK after I'd dust them every week at the track and just drive the car home. I really convinced alot of diehard carb guys at HRP during the bracket season that these newer cars were serious performers. They were definitely impressed that a quiet, stock looking Firebird could run mid-10s and still get 21 mpg, all with A/C, leather, power everything, etc..

I can't wait to get the LS1 into this 69. Damn POS sbc oil-leaker!

There is nothing that a carb does that computer controlled fuel injection can't do better. It is better in every way except inital cost. In the long run when you include MPG and that your engine will last longer because it's running the right mixture it might actually come out cheaper.
