Default Yet another fuel question

Sorry, but I'm going to beat a dead horse about my fuel system one more time. I picked up my JTR EFI swapping manual today and was reminded about something that I didn't think about. Charcol (purge) canister and vent valve. These are both things that my K5 blazer has but JTR says that I need the stock one from the motor (2002 LQ4 Denali motor in my case). I'll definatly try to find a better vent valve for my tank, from a 1990 TBI k5, van truck, suburban with the 31 gallon fuel tank like mine, but is the charcol canister a must?
