pros and cons
I am looking at swaping a 6.0 in to my 72 chevelle and I am looking at the pros and cons of this swap over just using a built small block or the big block. I am trying to not spend too much more then swaping in a big block that I have setting in my shop. I will have a OD Auto on either setup. So let me hear what you got thanks.

Not sure if your talkin gabout the LS2 or the 6.0 truck block. They are both pretty much the same but the truck block is iron and thus a bit stronger then the aluminum ls1/2. The BBC can make some major power but I think your looking at somewhat of the same price. The ls1 is getting to be a very easily attainable motor but itll be a little while longer until the ls2 gets there. Not too many 05 gto owners totalling out their cars yet...=P look into the ls1 some before you make any decisions. heads and a nice cam and you can put a very streetable 410-20 hp with out much effort at all.

Geniii
+ driveability
+ fuel mileage
+ lower emissions
+ parts selection
+ diagnostic ability with OBDII
+ lighter weight
- torque output
- learning curve with OBDII/electronics
- installation details (geniii's weren't designed to go into chevelles or should I say vice versa)
- umm...running thin here.....
BB
+ torque
+ street cred
+ ultimate power output (after lots of work)
+ simplicity
- MPG!!!!!
- driveability
- weight
- cost for BB hot rod parts (heads/rockers/intake etc.
It kind of depends on what you do with the car. If it's 90% strip, then a BB is hard to beat.
If you daily or frequently street drive it, the 6.0 is almost impossible to beat.
Since you don't have emissions to deal with, you can always put a pair of turbos on the 6.0 and have more power than you'll know what to do with......and still have driveability.

ducaT has really hit on most of the plusses and minuses. One of the reasons I chose the Gen III motor for my swap was the uniqueness. On your Chevelle, if you put a small block in it, people will look and say, "a Chevelle really should have a big block." If you put a big block in it, well everybody has one of those, so it's no big deal. With a Gen III you have something special and something that is not just a bolt in motor swap. You are keeping up with the times and truly modernizing a great classic. It will easily run with the built up originals and get decent mpg and drivability too. It's your car to do what you want with, if it was mine I'd go with the Gen III 6.0. I think they are the bargains of the Gen III motors. My $.02

MPG should be pretty good, i have a 5.3L in my 85 El Camino that I drive every day. I get 14 to 16 in the city and I drive it HARD. I only have had it on the highway once so far but it got 18, but that includes the highway trip to the dragstrip and 20 passes. I think the 6.0 will get almost as good of mileage.

is your motor stock? I should have said that I want to compare power output and mpg. Yes I realize that the more power down goes the mpg, just tring to get a feel. The more I think about it I want to keep a small block for now but will get a H.O. SB, mild BB or a Gen III motor.

Prettymuch stock except for a computer tune, it has 110 thousand miles on it. The intake and exhaust are not stock, the intake/air filter that I have on it are still temporary pieces and are restrictive. The exhaust is camaro manifolds and cats with a camaro y-pipe into my El Camino 2.25" single exhaust. It runs 14.5 @ 92 in the quarter, 13.9 @ 93 if I drop the y-pipe.

BTW, I have a complete 6.0L out of a 2003 truck for sale with the harness and PCM. The great thing about my setup is that it is ready to PLUG INTO a 4L80E - no adapters or anything, all GM wiring. Don't know if you going auto or manual, but if you're going auto and want a bulletproof trans... well if that's what you want you prob already this is what you're looking for!
