Default 5.3 or 6.0 and where?

'02 S10 xcab 4.3/4L60: Looking for a gen3 5.3 or 6.0

Which would be the more "economical" swap? Aren't both pretty much the same dimensionally? What I gather is that the either will fit right in with a little clearancing on the frame for the A/C compressor. Is that all? I've also seen that with the 6.0, I would have to swap certain external parts for clearance depending on if I use the LQ4 or LQ9. If this is so, what parts? All said and done, which engine should be the cheaper swap? I think custom wire harnesses would be about the same for each, right? Where can I find good low-mileage engines at? Ebay pretty much just has new crate engines and the salvage yards around me don't really have any late-model cars or trucks. I'd like to have around 3-400 rwhp all motor. I have no problem with cams, bolt-ons, or anything else that doesn't compromise the reliability of the engine.

LKQ online has a ton of pullout stuff.
You can find them on ebay or by doing a search.
They have yards all over the US. I had them ship me a motor, and I also bought a transmission. 4.8 out of a Silverado was $500 and the 4l60e to go with it was $500.
Pretty much came with everything needed. I had to do some minor harness repair, and add the starter ($30 on ebay) and the rest of the accessories, so I've probably spent ~1500 on the entire engine and tranny combo for my El camino.
Truck and car accessories are not really compatible, and the truck accessories sit a lot higher in the bay than the car ones.

One of the advantages of piecing it together is that you can find all the parts, and make all of the decisions to make it fit into your specific vehicle.

Which was nice, since there aren't a whole lot of geniii G-bodies rolling around.
All said and done, the 5.3 is going to be the cheaper swap. FAR more of those that were/are produced than the 6.0.
LM4 in the new impala is a 5.3 for 303hp/325tq. More than a 5.7L LT1!!

I was kinda leaning toward the 5.3. Seems to be a bit simpler. With some good heads and a nice cam (I wouldn't mind a bit of a "rumpety-rump"!) I should be able to safely and reliably get at least 350 flywheel hp out of it, huh? Isn't there an aluminum block version of it? What kinda mods to my truck will I have to make, besides the notch for the A/C compressor?

Hi, I've got a 2005 5.3L with less than 100 miles on it for sale. It has all the accessories, brackets, wiring harness, Computer, motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, O2 sensors and everything. It came out of a 2005 Tahoe that was never bought. The roof was crushed while it was on the car trailer on its way to a dealership. I originaly bought it this summer to put it in my 2002 Xtreme Blazer, but at that time, I couldt find the right motor mounts or exhaust for the conversion. So I bought a 350 H.O. long block instead, and put Edlebrock Fuel Injection on it, with a T350 trans. Anyway, there is absolutley nothing wrong with it, basicly brand new. Since its a 2005, it has Throttle by Wire instead of throttle cables, so I had to buy a new gas pedal, pedal wiring harness, and speed controler box with cruise control. I also attacthed the transmissiom from my 02 Blazer to the 5.3L. Its the same transmission, the 4L60E, but in 2003 the bellhousing bolt pattern changed, so I had to buy a new Bellhousing. All the parts I bought are Genuine and came from the Cheverolet place. Im asking $3000 for everything. Motor, trans, additional parts, everything. I can send you pictures if you or anyone you know would be interested.

The 5.3 and 6.0 are the same motor externally, basically the 6.0 is harder to find and way more expensive. Plus its hard to tell a 5.3 from a 4.8 unless you pull the head off and look at the pistons, The blocks for the smaller 5.3 and 4.8 , say both 4.8 and 5.3 on the back of the block, So be careful when buying!

Look on the block behind the alternator, it says 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 cast on the block. Will have to remove the alternator to be able to see that.
