Default 6.0L Carb & Distributor Conversion

Has anyone used the Wegner Motorsports front timing chain cover for the genIII motors that excepts a standard 302 Ford distributor? The cost of the cover and cam gear is around $575. I really like the cleaner under hood looks of this setup in the older cars, I just don't know much about how well this setup works. http://wegnerautomotive.com/wegnerautomotive/
Thanks,
Jim

Sorry, I can't help you with it. But that looks very sick. Id assume you could just use like a regular ignition box with that, like just a MSD 6AL?

Again, just sick. More I think, more I just might have to go Gen III for my next build up.

Why? IMO, cause the GM HOT cam in my sbc with a decent set of heads will make around 400-420 Hp.

The HOT cam I've seen for the LSx's with decent heads makes close to or better than 500 HP. Same cam specs, better head design.

Stock LS1 heads flow better than a lot of aftermarket SBC heads.

Weight savings from the aluminum block, and near bullet proof.

GENIII > SBC

Why go to a front mount distributor. You can get a victor jr manifold for around 310. Stick with efi and just use a top mounted throttle body with a filter. You could also go carb with any one of the other three carb intakes that are out with the edelbrock timing box for around 600.

One reason I wanted to go with this setup besides getting rid of the under hood clutter, is because there's less for me to screw up (I like to screw with stuff to much) . With the carb setup once I get it fine tuned there's not a lot I can do to screw up W.O.T. I know that EFI will give me better control from idle to 3/4 throttle, but I'll spend most of my time in W.O.T. My plans are in couple of years after the funds build up and my car is completed I'd like to get an aftermarket EFI setup. I bought a 6.0L out of a 2002 GMC Yukon with 20K miles so I could put a 408 stroker kit in it. I just pulled the heads off of it tonight and it is a LQ4 because it's got the low compression dished pistons in it. I know that I could use the Edelbrock / MSD setup, but I'm just familiar with the old carb / dist. setup.
Does anyone recommend which rotating assembly to use ( Lunati , Eagle, etc..) and where's the best place to buy?
Thannks,
Jim

Gm makes the cover, distributor gear to be used with an msd...

PN on the cover 88958679
cam gear 88958680
Uses msd distributor, and has a provision for a (not 100% positive) mechanical fuel pump if wanted...

If your not going all out on power then a eagle rotating assembly is fine. We bought eagle rods from summit, and I know they sell the packages. May want to check some sponsors here first as you may be able to get a better price. I like summit because they don't play games with selling something that they don't have in stock. I hear you about the carb ssetup. I was just saying that tuning a ls1 will only need to be done once and give you better drivability in varied conditions. I think carbs require a lot more maintance, but if that's what you know then stick with it.

i got away from a distributer for a reason.
i run the edelbrock kit and have no problems dipping in the low 11's(if i had a 1/4 mile here)
ls1 coil packs can handle anything you need to do, IMO.
good luck.

the wegner kit uses a ford dist. & ford fuel pump. i think the price is way to high for what you get.

i like the edelbrock carb kit that comes with the carb intake manifold and MSD box that allows you to keep distributorless ignition. i guess you are going for looks but IMO going from DIS to a distributor is a giant step backwards. i guess you could argue the same for EFI to carb.... but oh well.
