More on '78 T/A LS1 conversion I've just about convinced myself that it's worth it to drop in the LS1+transmission into my '78 TransAm restoration instead of building up the pontiac 400 and switching to the 200r4 xmission. Unfortunately it's going to be more involved then I had planned (and pricey since I'm having someone else do it), but I think overall it'll be better.
Note for the following questions: my plan is to get a used LS1+xmission (e.g., from ebay) that's basically a "drop-in". And this is not meant to be a racer - just a fun car to drive.
So now a couple more questions:
1) My T/A is currently an automatic, but I've always wished it was a manual.
a) How hard would it be to use the 6-speed manual instead of the 4L60E automatic?
b) What additional parts would be needed?
c) Are there any complications during the conversion and afterward I should consider?
d) "Would you do it?"
2) Given that I'm probably going to be changing out the intake manifold anyway, is there any reason to pick one year over another? I know there were minor changes over the years including the EGR.
3) Anything else I should look for when shopping for the engine+xmission?
