Default STS Turbo kit question

I want to put this kit on the formula in my sig. It has the ls1 out of my 98 camaro. What I wnat to know is if I can order the ls1 kit for the 98-02 F bodies, and will in bolt up to the car with minor mods, or no mod at all? Obviously they do not offer a kit for an ls1 3rd gen, and I do not have the money for a custom setup.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Thats my old car. I'm glad to se that somone put it back on the road. I did feel kind of bad taking a lot of the good parts from it but they are looking good on my 68 Camaro.

Good Luck

Yeah, I wishyou would have left the brakes on it, that would have saved me a lot. I bet those parts went to great use in your camaro though. If you are interested, send me a pm with your e mail, and I will hook you up with all kinds of pics to see the progress. The car will be on the road in march. I am waiting for the salt to get off of the roads first, and besides I have a few minor things to address first too. This has been the best project that I have ever done. I would like to stay in touch, I might have a few questions down the road if that's cool.

i dont see how it would be much more work than one for a 98-02, those already take alotta work to make fit.

I am hoping. The differances I think are mainly going to efect the plumbing. I might need to fabricate some differant brackets or something.

have you gotten under each car to see the differences in the floor pans? ride height? length of cars? i know that the formulas come with a single pipe out to the rear and then have the split muffler in right in the back. the ls1 cars are the same way, just look to see how the pipes flow and fit in the pans. i am sure that you could do it, you might have to go to a muffler shop and have some work done on the pipes to make it fit just right, but i dont see why you couldnt. good luck

I have looked, but even though a lot of it looks the same, I know when it comes time to bolt it in, there will probably be all kinds of little variences.

I would say call STS. They would be the best people to talk to. Maybe you can just buy the parts you need and have an exhaust shop fab up the rest.....

I'd like to see this kit installed on a thirdgen. I'd like to run some sort of power adder, but I havnt decided if it will be NOS, charger or turbo.

i live right next to STS and have been to their facility, my friend is a main fabricator there..

you cna use the LT1 kit... the only thing you would need to change.. would be the very last up pipe at the end.. where it goes to the throttle body, you would need to modify that, because the LT1 intake sits lower than the TPI.. but yeah call them and speak to Dave South, he is the VP of sales and can help you out.

I had spray on the motor when it was in my camaro, and it worked really well, the only downside is for a higher horsepower shot you go through it like crazy, and it gets to be a pain to have to keep refilling the bottle. I also thought about a supercharger, but wanted to retain most of the street manners, and gas milage. I spoke with someone from sts, and he said that there will be very little differance. I guess what I will do is order the kit and install it myself. I will post up here frequently, along with pics since I see there are some others that are interested.

I think that you would get a better fit with fewer custom changes if you tried the LT1 STS turbo kit.

Exodus,

Did you ever get any brakes for the car? I still have not put the Baer brakes on my Camaro.

I have a set of stock ones for the front, but will have to upgrade later. The money is the issue right now. I just sent the wiring and pcm to speartech. Why, are you willing to get ridd of them, cause if you are, I still have the spindles that came with that kit that was on the car.

I have the ls1 in mine, not the tpi motor.
