Default ls2 for the 76 vega begins

I picked up a 76 vega a few months ago. Its got a pretty stout 327 in it now but It looks like it's the out with the old and in with the new.

I'm going from 110 octane only high CR motor to a nice starting pump gas modern motor.

Going to start out pretty stock but I'm looking for a big cam. Daily driving isn't a concer of mine. The car is probably under or around 3000lbs and my main goal is go as fast in the 1320 as a cam'd ls2 can go in this weight of a car.

Any cam suggestions?

Also I'm a little lost when it comes to PCM and harnes. I just need enough to run the thing without breaking the bank. Do I just use a stock PCM and harness and not hook anything up that isnt needed to run the engine?

Here are some pics of the car.

No cam suggestions, but I would LOVE to see that thing run. V8 Vega's were the **** in my day. I think you are sitting around 2800# (and change) right now. Keep the rear end in mind if it hasn't been changed out. Full length sub-frames are a must also. Good luck, and keep us posted!

It has an old Ford 8 inch, yes 8 with 4.62 gears. Ladder bars and all that framing crap under there. Its got a TH350 with billet input shaft and some other goodies with a 4000rpm stall. I think I might save some weight with an ls2 also. Wounder what even a stock HP ls2 would get me in the 1320. I'm not sure the DT loss with what I have.

Its gonna be fun. Need something to do during these Michigan winters.

I didnt but it has been done. I bought the car as it sits in the pics in the first post. It has front to back reinforcement. Hopefully a big cam'd LS2 with some spray won't twist it up and do me right.

It's good to see another H-body owner on here. So far I know of one other Vega getting an LS engine and thats Erik from Norway. I'm doing the LS1 swap into my 78 Monza 2+2. A stock LS2 is putting about 325-355 to the wheels. In a light weight car like the vega (2700-3000 depending) you should be in the 11's. Like what was said, do frame rails to stiffen the chassis. The 8" should be ok for a stock LS2 but if you cam it you may need to upgrade. Thats a clean looking vega, that looks like a 75 front with Astre taillights. Visit www.V8Monza.com or http://p206.ezboard.com/bv8hbodytalk for tons of info on the Vega. Email me if you have any questions. lockhartb@comcast.net

Yeah its got some tail light changes. Bought the car not knowing much about it but I think I got a pretty good deal.

Ill definitly drop you email here sometime, thx

Wiring harness and PCM to make this work are my biggest hurtles. It will be my first time not going old school on an engine. Should be fun.
