Default fuel system

When doing a swap for the fuel system could you use the stock tank of the car your doing the swap on, then run a external fuel pump and braided lines with a regulator in it somewhere to get it at 60psi. would this setup work or do you need to do something differant. and for the pump to work would it need to be wired into the computer or just have power sent to it.

Just need power to the pump. Good idea to have a relay as well. If you use the PCM to control the fuel pump relay it will automatically shut off the pump even with the ignition on if the engine is not running.

External pump works fine. Most people use a Walbro 340 or similar inline pump. The 99 Corvette fuel pressure regulator is also popular.

Yes run the pump thru the factory PCM wiring and relay, like said above, if engine cuts out and ignition still on the pump will switch itself off.

Run your factory tank into a external pump, get a reg and some braided line and fittings.

You will probably recieve some replies talking about the need for baffles or a sump in the tank, to prevent fuel starvation when the fuel is low,especially during cornering. An alternative to this is the Holley multi point fuel pickup system. I tried to get the part number from the Holley website, but it isnt working right now. It looks like you can install it in your stock tank without doing any cutting. Worth looking at. I was thinking about this for my 55 Chevy, but since I need a new tank anyway, I went with a RockValley tank/pump/sump assembly.

how much power can a Walbro 340 suport i plan a 5.3L .030 or .060 over with a tr224 or little bigger cam cleaned up stock heads and 100-200 wet kit on it.

From time to time, people mention Walbro 255s or 340s as being what is "commonly" used by rodders. How does it hold up to Aeromotive's A1000 or the Tsunami pumps? I'm also doing a swap to a 5.3 (wit' extra work done) into my OBS truck, and external is how it's gonna go. I'm debating b/t Walbro and Aeromotive.

** Don't mean to hijack thread, but figured this might be worthy info someone else may be wondering.

I looked around and read that the 340 could support 600rwhp but i dont now for sure.

the 255 in tank can support 550 REAR WHEEL hp in fbodies and have a reasonable margin of safety. (walbro340 = 255lph same pump)

I think all the aeromotive gear is top quality from what I have seen and used I highly recommend the stuff.

My car runs the walbro 255 external and aeromotive reg. The pump is quiet and the reg is very universal and easy to use.

Default pump pick up

I will be using the stock tank in a 56 Chevy(already bought a new one) and will be using the pickup tube on the top of the tank. Will this be a problem? I also will put a bulkhead fitting in the top of the tank for the return line. Any helpfull hints.........

I may just go with the Walbro pump. I just want a pump that will not die out after 2 yrs b/c it'll be an external setup. I'm not looking to put down more than 400 - 450 RWHP. If I decide to later, I can always upgrade.
