Default Speartech vs Painless vs S&P

OK, part 2 ... I've heard differing opinions on each of these wiring harnesses, though by-and-large I've seen the fewest number of negatives for the speartech.

Any comments/advice on which one? Also, speartech can either rework an existing harness or provide a new one. There's a fair bit of price differential. Is it worth it to get the new one?

Again, this is for a '78 T/A + '01 LS1 and T56.

I'd be worth it to talk to John at Speartech. He can fix you up right the first time.

I went with Speartech, mainly because he has been so helpful to me and to so many others here on the forum. When I emailed and called and talked with him, he just gave me a lot of confidence that he knew what the heck he was doing and would be there to help if I needed him. I had the same choice that you do, modify or build new. I had a pristine original harness, and also a pretty custom application where I wanted to conceal as much wiring as possible. I elected to sell my original harness, got $200 for it. If I woulda put it on Ebay I sure would have gotten more. My Custom harness was $800 because I also went with ETC, the Modified harness would have been $500, so the actual cost difference was only $100. And for that I got a very clean harness that fits my application exactly and is much more compact and attractive than the factory harness. Hope that helps your decision process.

Out of curiosity, what is the average turnaround time for Speartech ? I am also considering all of my options for a harness.

It was exactly 1 month from the time I sent my ECU until the custom harness and ECU were back at my door. We had been emailing and talking for a couple days to get my measurements and requirements before I sent it off. I was not in a big rush because I sent it before I even took my car apart. My harness covers the engine including the injectors, the fuel pump relay and connections for my fan relays. Plus the conncections and fuses to go inside the dash. He built it with custom measurments I gave him. You will have to ask John about car/truck differences.

Another Speartech vote here. He was VERY helpful to me, and very quick to respond and ship, even though I only had a VERY small order of a few connectors. Definitely a good guy.

Yeah I agree that Speartech is the only way to go. I have one of his harness and it is top notch.

Here is another for Speartech, call John he will get you what you need.
I tried one of the other and ended up with a few months of trouble, John sorted it out right away.
The Wiring from the other company was also top notch, but their knowledge of PCM tuning and knowing the right answer was

Yet another vote for Speartech.. I used him on my '69 (rewored GM harness) and am using him on my '68 (new harness).. the CS is just great and he does good work.

My second choice would be S&P since they do so many.. I have no info on the Painless LS1 harness so I can't comment. But keep this in mind.. if you call any company what are the chancess you will be dealing with the owner directly, you will at Speartech.
