And so it begins ....
It might not happen in the first round. I've already exceeded my original budget by an order of magnitude and I really want to save some $$ for the suspension and brakes. But hey, it's only money right? That's what a Silicon Valley engineer's salary is for ...
But I have to pass the CA smog referee when the conversion is done.
So I'll probably keep things as close to stock as possible until the ref passes it. Then I'll think about what additional fun I want to have.
I live here in South San Francisco and have been hunting for an LS1 for my 59. We should talk about our projects....

I think I'm going to just have to make do with what I have.

One thing I've realized is that reading these forums is very hazardous to your wallet.

If you are concerned about scratching paint etc, pull the front sheet metal off while you do the swap and engine fitment. That's what I did. And, I love having the extra room to work.
Good luck with your project, I think it will turn out great!

Pontiac nut approves of this engine swap....THE LS1 should be in EVERY CAR...except our 64 GTO
As you might imagine, I've gotten a number of comments about it being a crime to pull out the pontiac 400. I hope everything is done by summer. I can't wait to cruise highway 1 with the t-tops off, with the sounds of the ocean and the sounds of the LS1 battling it out.
