Default Pics of my LS1, what needs to be done?

While my car's been in the bodyshop, I've gotten to blasting and painting parts on my engine. Something's not right, it still looks too cluttered..
what needs to be done? Paint the valve covers? Polish them? I'm planning on getting some c5 coil covers in black, then painting the "corvette" logo orange, too. I'm looking for ideas here.

Lightbulb Ideas.......

Your project looks really nice. I have seen some people mount the coil packs on the firewall, 4 on each fenderwell, or even hidden behind the fenderwell. I think the hidden coil packs would be sweet on ur ride. Then grind, sand, & smooth the valve covers..............
Good Luck!

I was considering that, but I don't really want to buy new sparkplug wires, right now, I just sprung for the MSD's seeing as I broke 2 stockers. I agree, that'd look awesome, though... Keep the suggestions coming..

I say do the covers in orange and leave the lettering black. That would definately go with the theme you have going. Chrome UDP's and a aluminum oil cap off ebay and you'll be all set for the looks department. Great work! -Alex

I think, the orange accessory brkts and pulleys make your eyes continually scan the motor. TOO much going on, thats why it looks cluttered. Leave the intake alone, and try a nuetral color on the rest. Let your eye fall on the intake, and the fact that the block and heads are aluminum, will make it cleaner.
Loose/move the coil packs forget the engine covers, get some fabricated valve covers (racey look, the stockers suck), and put the corvette emblems on the fabbed covers if ya need some identification or what ever.
Sometimes, less is more.
Paint the brkts and pulleys silver or aluminum, they will dissapear, and your eye will see the motor, not the pullies and brkts.
Just an opinion.

By the way , cool project, very cool.

I sanded it first, to knock down the little stupid casting molding injection thingies, then sprayed it with this poly-primer stuff that the guy at the paint store recommended, so it looked like this.

then some surfacing primer to make it smooth..

then some base and clear, the color of the car.. Color looks poor because its indoors..

I'm thinking about maybe just cleaning up the valve covers, painting them orange, then putting cleaned up coils back on, then get some corvette engine covers (it was originally out of a C5 anyways), black with orange lettering, which will contrast nicely with body color painted inner fenders and firewall. Some engine compartments hurt the eyes because they're so blatantly one color. I think that'd look good. whaddyathink?

Feel free to borrow any ideas off my engine. I definately recommend relocating the coils to the rear of the heads or onto the firewall somewhere. That allows you to put real valve covers on. Mine are from Katech but there are many nice looking ones out there. The billet fuel rails are a nice touch too and don't cost too much. You can get them from Speed Inc.

your vette is gorgeous.. I dont have room behind the heads, but once it's back in the car, I'll look for a spot for them. Making mounts will be easy, I work in a CNC shop

I like the engine, and think some coil covers will mask most of the clutter.

That pic of the car in your sig is a clients car of mine, Andrew Harshman. We put a T56 into it, and got it into PHR. Nice chop work.

The engine looks great as it is, but if you're not sure of the "look", why don't you photoshop it into your engine compartment and then play with the color of the various pieces? LOTS easier that way (& cheaper)!

Also, why hasn't someone made a valve cover cover that fits over the regular valve covers tightly and is just high enough to cover up the ignition "stuff"? Seems like it could made easily either in sheet metal or some heat resistant plastic.
