Default LSX drop questions

I've found a donor car for a potential LS1 swap. The car is a 2002 SS. Problem is: the engine is still in the car and I'd have to drop the engine (owner can't do the labor). The car is on the other side of FL. I'm wondering if these engines can be pulled from the engine bay, or if the engine has to be dropped underneath the car. If it has to be dropped, how could I drop and pull this engine without a lift? Maybe a junkyard would pull the engine for me? Any details / instructions on this process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can do it either way. If you have a way to lift the body of the car off the front subframe, you can get the entire engine, trans, and front suspension out very quickly. If you want to come out the top, its very much like a typical motor pull, but it helps to remove the balancer pulley and the intake manifold first.

It can be pulled from the top, but many people say it is easier to do it from the bottom, even without a lift.

There's been a number of threads about it previously, but here's a few I was able to find right now:
