Default About to buy a motor, need answers

What are the downfalls of me buying an 98 Z28 LS1 with 38k on it vise a 99+? Its got an auto tranny, but I want a T56, but I dont think I can pass up the deal. This would go in the 67 I recently purchased. I have also been thinking about an LS6 for the car, but cant I just convert the LS1? Is the 98 an iron or an aluminum block? I also hear that the 99+ computer has is better, can I use that computer instead?

98 is aluminum, but has thinner sleeves than the 99+ blocks. This means little for a driver, but if you ultimately want to hone the bores the 98 block has a smaller service limit (ie. .005"). The 1998 heads are somewhat unique, in that they mounted the coils directly to the valve covers, versus using a separate coil rail in later years. This also means the 98 cars get perimeter bolt valve covers, versus center-bolt covers on the 99+ cars. There's more nit-pick differences, but nothing earth shattering.

He's getting the entire donor car for $3k, I told him that it'd be worth it to buy, use the parts he needs, part out the car, and buy a T56 assembly. Most of the pitfalls of a '98 year engine can be easily fixed. I think that's a steal for a low mileage drivetrain.

Can't you just get 99+ sensors to work with a 99 pcm on a 98 engine? I guess it wouldn't make much sense if hes getting a whole donor car.
