Anyone ever hear of someone sticking an LS1 in a classic Porsche. The 67-69 912s weigh about 2100 lbs. Rear-engine, rear-wheel drive. Better RR suspension than most classics. Anyone do it before?

I've actually done a lot of research. I'll have to use a heavily moded G50 tranny.
The LS1 weighs 60 pounds more than the 911 6cyl. Also, I might flip the drivetrain around so the motor is in the back seat making it a mid-engine car. I picked up a 1967 porsche 912 shell (no motor, tranny or interior) for $100. I want to make it my new RR car. What do ya think...

It's a 911, which is what you should use anyway. The pre-70 cars have a shorter wheelbase which leads to spooky handling. If you want to use a 912 to save a few bucks over the 911, use a '76 model. It's dimensionally identical to the 911 of the same year, but usually about 30% cheaper.
The trans is of no consequence because you'll need a mid 80s G50 trans anyway.

Thanks for the link/info.
So even if I made it a mid-engine car, the swb is going to hurt me? I've looked around and most the of the mid-70s 911 and 912 go for 4-5K. That's more than the ls1 costs.

If you made the SWB car mid engine, you'd have nowhere to sit. The additional wheelbase is between the front seat and the rear wheels. There's simply no room for an engine in that configuration.
Also, $4-5K is an absolute steal for ANY 911/912. Just exactly how cheap were you thinking you could get into one? For christ's sake, the transmission is going to cost every nickel of 5 grand. If you're looking for a budget swap car, you're barking up the wrong tree. You'll have every dime of $20k in a LS1 911 even if you cut some corners.

Thanks for the pics.
I found bought my 912 out a guys backyard. He was gonna junk it, so I paid $100 for it. No tranny, motor or interior. I found another 912 near my work. It costs 3K, perfect body (just finished), no tranny or motor and half the interior. But it was another '68 short wheelbase car.
I found a beat up 74 911, but it had significant rust damage and they guy wanted 5k.
For that kind of money it seam like it would be better to mod the 912 I have for a longer wheel base.
Can I just buy fiber glass rear quarter panels for a '69 912/911. Will they bolt of to the stock '68 if I change the wheel base?
