T5?
My question is can I swap T5 from say a mustang or whatever into my 69 camaro? I mean the final drive is virtually the same so why pay the higher price for the T56. There are tons of T5s running around. Can I just buy a lakewood bell houseing and bolt the sucker up? Anyone done this? Just wondering?
Also Im only pushing like 430ftlbs of torque that isnt to much for the T5s is it?

An extra note I don't have a lot of experience with them myself, just thought I would point you in a helpful direction.
ing a few hours a day, the T5 would not be the optimum transmission for your swap. Yes, it'd work, and probably work fine. It's been done. Problem is, it's only rated at 300ft-lb of torque, and 3rd gear is very weak. They're known to break behind any kind of decent power. You'd be much, much better off buying a T56 with a decent clutch, as it'll take a good deal of abuse, and have a better overdrive. I'd trade off the weight and price difference anyday for a little security. Do a search in this section, it's been discussed about a week ago, camaroholic feels quite strongly about the T5 vs T56 debate. good luck, post pics of your ride!

The worst thing about trying to buy Supra parts is... immature other Supra owners!
Back on topic, I've looked at the TKO 500/600 and they look like they might fit my tunnel (T56 won't- too wide in the rear part
). What are the differences between the GM & Ford versions? Andrew
. i have been across so many t56 f.s threads. pmed every seller that i had cash in hand. but when it came time to pay them they would back out. finally found one in texas at a price i couldnt refuse. yea it needed a seal and a couple of sensors. but its better than playing games with people on the boards

69rscamaro:
When I built up my LT4 Trans Am, I found a great deal on a rebuilt/improved "bulletproof" T56, around $1900 shipped, I'm thinking the shop/guy was in Illinois or Indiana. The first one he sent was damaged by FedEx, and he shipped a second one before getting the first one back. If I can find the guy's contact info, I'll PM it to you. This tranny has held up to a +/- 600HP motor OK, but I'm not hard on it or racing it.
