Default T56 swap, need electric?

I didn't get the trans yet but I should be getting a T56 out of a '97SS.
I don't know how CAGS works. Can you just connect this trans with no wiring to it and it will shift through all gears?
I'd assume not since they sell skip shift conversions that must mean you can't just unplug a wire.

Whats needed electrically to get it to shift right in an older vehicle?

With the high end editors *HPTuner, etc), you should be able to program this out.

I have HPTuners for my 2002 but it's not going to be of much use if I put the trans in a 1975 vehicle. Thats what I'm looking to do.

Leave it unplugged and you'll be fine. 4th gen guys drive around all the time with it unplugged as a cheap fix to the CAGS issue.

Cool, thanks. I'll be getting the trans tomorrow, maybe even tonight but it's still in the car.

You will still need to make a connection to the reverse lockout solenoid though. Otherwise reverse will be very difficult to select.

I put a 6spd in my auto car, just hook a wire from your brake light swtich to activate the reverse lockout. It works fine as long as you remember not to downshift to 5th while braking.

You can solder a 2.2 K ohm 1/2 watt resistor across the wires that went to the solenoid to fool the computer so it won't throw a DTC.

Twice I've said it's going in an older vehicle, a 1975. They don't have computers.
I do appreciate the help though, and someone else might be able to use that info if this come up during a search.

some people remove the reverse L/O solenoid and plug the hole others force it into reverse and the last option is to supply voltage to it with a momentary switch (like the one on the shifters that most use for nitrous). its a simple fix, momentary hot on one side and ground on the other!
