Just thought I would share that I put a 6.0l LQ9 truck engine in my '68 camaro and if you use the hooker motor mount adapters the stock truck oil pan will clear the stock suspension. The only problem is it hangs kind of low.

5/16 Pipe reducer. goes from 5/16 return to a 3/8 pipe allowing use of the above fitting SS-500-R-6
These fitting are from swagelok
Ok, so here is the big question:

In the picture, on the left hand side of the FFR, we have (top) Swagelok SS-600-6-6AN (3/8" to compression fit), then bottom Swagelok SS-600-6-6AN, along with the adapter Swagelock SS-500-R-6 (5/16" compression to 3/8" pipe).

On the right-hand side, you have an unidentified 3/8" pipe piece (with a collar) along with the Swagelock SS-600-6-6AN (3/8" to compression fit).

My question to you: What the heck is the part number on that pipe and where did you get it?

S&P sells an entire kit to adapt all that, but compared to Swagelock's prices of ~$8-12 each fitting, S&P is charging an average of $30 per piece, which is absurdly high.

I'm actively talking to my local Swagelok supplier and hoping he can provide some answers. I sent him a lot of pics, but still no response yet (only been 30 minutes )

I prefer not to buy S&P - I hate supporting people who overprice parts like that. I bought their oil pressure tree and the water temp tree and, after tapping for the oil pressure tree, realized I didn't even need it, and after reading this thread (thanks Olly for posting it!! you've been a great help in my odd swap!) I realize now I didn't need the water pressure tree, just needed to be more creative

TIA for info.

Not sure what he used, but I'm using a Dorman 800-155, per the FAQ sticky in this forum.

Thanks, missed that one - looks very similar to the Dorman 107F. I'm curiosu if you could just hack off the flared end and use the Swagelock end on it...

I just chopped off the end and used a clamp, but that's what i needed it for.

what about the oil pan. Will a f-body pan work on a 6.0 iron block. I don't want mine hanging as low as kvanmaanen. I just see bad things happening to it. If the camaro pan won't work which aftermarket pan should i go with.

Isn't it bad to bolt aluminum to anything ferrous? Aluminum + Rust + heat and pressure = thermite = explosion?

Once Aluminium oxide is formed it doesnt work. Also, the amount of heat required to set off the reaction, I believe, is much greater than what your engine will create.

it takes heat something along the lines of magnesium burning to ignite thermite. think about aluminum heads on an iron block. works fine, even with combustion temps. thermite is lots of fun, by the way.. my dad had lots of "cad-weld" from work.. awesome stuff. melts through anything.

Just asking guys, don't kill the curious

I honestly have no idea. I had always heard it was a bad idea to bolt anything ferrous to iron. Not particularly due to thermite (don't remember the given reason), but I remembered some stuff fron 2nd year chem in college that heat + aluminum + rust = batman sound effect.

It's not that much of a problem. Think of spark plugs in aluminum heads. A little anti seize takes care of it. Bob

I am in the process of trying to find a 69 Camaro to swap my LS1 into. But I intend to build up my motor before I perform the swap. Just going to throw some forged goodies in it with a decent set of heads and pretty good sized cam to surpass 430rwhp and than add some spray.

Does anyone make a tranny brace/mount for a TH400 on the 69 Camaros? Because thats what I plan on putting in this car unless I just use my T56 that I have sitting in my garage next to my LS1. LOL

I finally decided to get rid of the ol 99, and to get back to work on the 67. But instead of running the solid roller e-headed 464ci Pontiac, the boost motor for the TA is going to go in. Can't avoid smog here really, and I'd really like to have something I can just drive and enjoy, and get into boost without having to hear about it every 2 years. Thanks for the write-up, this will help me out BIG time!

Best bet for staying smog legal with a transplant is to keep the factory emissions for the year of the car that the motor was taken out of as well as whatever may have been required for the year of car it is going in and you should be golden. Can always throw a turbo or a blower on there to get that extra boost (no pun intended) if you want more power. Or heads and a cam or pretty much anything else........
