Default MAF Location

Before long I will be designing and building my air intake plumbing. Looking for advice on MAF placement. I plan to put a 90 degree 4-3.5 reducung elbow on the throttle body, then run 3.5 tubing to the MAF and finally tubing to a cone type filter of a type to be determined. What I am not sure of is where in the tubing should I put my MAF and does it make a difference performance wise? Or is it just placed where it fits the best and the wire will reach it? I see some folks with it right up close to the throttle and others with it 2 feet downstream close to the filter. What are the factors to consider? Also where should the Air temp sensor go?

thanks guys

Pat

My MAF is in front of the radiator. I actually had to extend the wires to get it to reach. It doesn not matter where it goes, just has to be in the airpath. The stock location for the air temp sensor is downstream of the MAF.
