I LOVE THIS PROJECT!
that bodystyle is so badass, loved it since the first time I laid eyes on it as a kid. the widebody makes it look 10x better, oh yeah those beautiful wheels are soooo nice!
best of luck on the swap and keep us up to date with pics!
dont mind the haters, there are PLENTY of 911's runnign around, all stock, for the Porsche guys to drool over... its about time that '77 widebody 911 got an LS1 swap to get the modern powerplant it deserves!
props!
I just love it! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!

You spend a ton of money on a 911 turbo charge it, and you make as much HP as a stock Ls1 (and it weighs the same). You can take an LSx motor with the kits that are out there, and bolt it in. The cooling is the only issue. You either cut the front of the car, or do a toy jet wing radiator. Early 911s can get down aroud 2200 lbs if memory serves me. So, imagine a 2200 lb car with a decent LSx motor. I have several friends who have kicked the idea around. Most aren't wild about cutting the car up to get a radiator up front.
Anyway, this car runs around the Houston Area. It was done several years ago.

The other companies that do V8 swaps like Renegade are not producing any kit either.

Great concept. I'd like some more info on the cooling as well. I went to the Toyojet website & the pics are small/low res- few details as to how this is set up.
Since I own two rear engine air cooled 6 cylinder Chevys, this idea appeals to me for one of them. The 4 speed transaxle from the mid 60's is no fun on the highway after having driven a car with a T56. Almost all of the V8 swaps for these cars involve cutting out the rear seat area & making a mid-engine, with a few rare 215 CID Buick/Rover V8s in the engine bay or Olds 455s & auto transaxle under the rear shelf.
I had a mid-engine concept of running two small radiators under the quarter windows & plumbing them together, but never went further with this idea. The German body style would not allow this configuaration at any rate.
I was looing at the Renegade kit for a 928 & may still do this one at some point.
