Default 3rd Gen Guys - Need Wheel/Tire Input

I'm sure most of you guys that have done the LS1 swaps have experienced the same thing I'm going through now. It just won't hook!

Looking at drag radials and wanted to find out what some of you guys have used for tire/wheel combos. It's a GTA with the stock 16" wheels and 245/50/16s right now. I'll probably go ahead and buy a new set of rear wheels and just swap at the track. I don't want to do any clearancing or fender rolling. Would like to keep something along the same height too since it's only got a 3.27 gear.

So, what fits and which tire brand/type hooks best?

I ran a set of BFG drag radials on my GTA wheels, 255/50 16. At the time the rest of the suspension was stock so they didnt hook that much better then the stock tires. I would like to know the biggest size slick that could be fitted on a 15" rim.

I had some 255/50/16 BFG dr's that hooked just as good as my 26x10x15 MT ET Drags that I have now.

Dave... if you go to summit's or jeg's website and search through the slicks they will tell you the recommended rim width size for each one.

I have seen the recommended tire size, but only certain size tires will fit in a third gen wheel well. I was curious as to what size tire and rim backspacing.

Exactly what Dave said, what will fit? 15x10 sounds good but has anyone actually had this combo stuck up under a 3rdGen? What kind of backspacing would you need on a 10 inch wheel, 5 1/2 or 6?

I thought about getting a second set of GTA rears but I can't find a lot of tire options for a 16x8 wheel.

I found a post on thirdgen.com. They said 4.5" backspace for 15x8, 5.5" backspace for 15x10 rim. Still no word on the tire size issue.

Are you trying to fit a 28x12.5 slick or what? I think a 255 DR or a 26x10 slick will work for either of you guys.

Thats what i have always read, the 8 inch fits no problem, the 10 inch wide rim needs a little beating to fit. Just do a search on TGO theres quit a bit of info on this over there, and some pics.

I bought a set of prostars w/goodyear slicks 28x10 for 200.00 from a guy who races a third gen. They fit but hit the front of the inner wheel well slightly. He told me to provide clearance w/ a BFH!

i run a 5" back spacing on a 8" rim when i run a 28" tire.
the 4.5" is kinda tight. works good for a 26" tire tho.
good luck!
