Default can anyone identify this spindle (pinto?)

Guys, this is a spindle and rotor off of the mini. Does anyone know what this can be from? The rotor measures a couple thou over 9 1/4 " Ø .

I was thinking Pinto, Vega, Chevette, or Capri, but pics of these are hard to come by.

any ideas?

mustang II was a pretty heavy car, i wouldn't have thought it would have had solid rotors in the front.

Its definitely not a Mustang II (pinto) spindle. its also very odd to see a non vented front rotor.

It is definitely NOT a mustang II. We machine aftermarket mustang II spindles at my shop they are much larger. The pin on this one is only 1.060 Ø at it's largest point- the mustang II's are nearly 1.5".

I did go on speedway motors website but didn't see anything cluse. What they show for Pinto / Mustang II looks nothing like this.

It's not a Monza/Vega either! Vega's had solid rotors but not like the one pictured.

One part looks familiar. The steering arm looks MOPAR.

OK, did some research at the auto parts store. The spindle bearings that fit are from a 66-68 VW and so are the pads So it looks to be VW, but I'm puzzled because the ball joints are NOT the same size as the 66-68 bug.

Finally figured it out. It's got to be a '73 Opel GT. Same inner & outer bearings, pads, and rotors. I'm glad I now know what I have, but it sucks 'cause there is no "bolt on" brake upgrade for this setup. Like everything else on the car looks like it will have to be re-engineered / fabricated.

Default disc brake swap

http://www.pozziracing.com/12_corvet...es_on_fgen.htm

Try these, i used them on my javelin....yes an AMC. They where so easy to adapt it was like they where made for the car. The front foot print/tread witdh grew 2 inches which was good, Ya use chevelle spindles and hubs from a drum car, Trust me, it is easy to adapt the chevelle balljoints to most control arms. Ya can swap the steering arms back and forth for front or rear stear. Look to the roundy rounders, you be surprised wht steering stuff they have available, and it's alll heavy duty. You can probably find some kind of adapters for the tie rod ends, ya might be able to use yours. I put an 8.5 rear in my car and the 2000 z-28 rear discs bolted on. I have 4 wheel 12" discs for under $400 bucks! I used all the used parts from the donor car they where so nice, it even had new pads on it, lol. I used an 87 iroc master and booster, and had to buy a prop valve, it was the most expensive part. I had to make some hard lines, and they took a little time, some where flare some where bubble, it was actually the hardest part. There's more to it but this is a good outline. I can help with pics if needed.
I made my own adapter brtkt off that web site, i down loaded it and kept increasing size until it fit the templet. I did the whole swap in 8 hrs, we where slow at work, instead of going home, i tackled it.

I'm sure ya know PBR's are on the z-28, and they are the same company that build calipers for BEAR brakes.........Z stuff is cheap and plentyful. To put "bears" on my 65 GS would have cost me 4 grand, but i did swap the z-stuff for it too, I had a little more in it, 600 bucks, cuz i bought new/rebuilt calipers.

For me i didnt used the chevelle spindles, i used the AMC's. I took it all apart and the AMC and chevelle wheel bearings where the same part # all i had to do was 60 dollars worth of machine work and they bolted on.
Anybody with some patience and time could do it. mj

Thanks for all the info, but my dilemma is that I still want to run the 13" wheel that I have now. I can possibly machine up some one- off calipers that will clear even with a 10" rotor. I dunno. Otherwise i'd have to go to a 14" or larger wheel which wouldn't look right on the car.

Lightbulb this idea may be out of the box but...............

Maybe you could machine/adapt some of the calipers from the imports, i.e. honda civic, mitsubishi, and so on. Good luck.

Yep- saw a couple of guys run honda 10 1/4" vented rotors with Volvo 4 piston calipers. - but the caliper will whack the 13's. I'll figure somethin out- mod a caliper, make new wheel centers, different hub... we'll make it work.
