You start paying beyond $3000. you can pick up an entire LS1 car that was damaged.

- I got a 98 Camaro Z28, wrecked in the front with 42,000 miles on the motor/T56 for 3500...sold the driveshaft, leather seats, t-tops, side mirrors, rear end for a combined 1500, and sold the rest of the car for 800...that makes it only 1200 bucks for the whole combo...

Just look around, you can find 'em!

Thanks 1fine69,

If I could still do that type of work, I would do the same thing. I do hate wasting money. I don't have a lot of spare time either. I will keep looking though

Maybe I should snap up that 12K mile motor / T56 for $4K. I'm a terrible cheapskate... actually, I just can't afford to waste my $$$ So it's important that I get the best deal I can.

I am WAY cheap but time is a problem. At least eBay helps as long as you watch out. There are scammers but for the most part people are good.

Thanks Novas Forever. Yes, time is a very important factor for me. In fact, I just past up two good deals because I would have had to locate too many parts. The more I consider this, the more tempted I am to just buy the $4K engine.

...or maybe I'll just mod the old dinosaur 350 CID with revised LS1 firing order solid roller cam, 1.6 roller rockers, aluminum AFR Vortec heads, SS headers and X-pipe, etc. All tuned for my perfomance goals. It's easier/cheaper.

Running down all those little insignificant parts is a major pain and really costly. That is why I bought a complete drop out. It would have been easier to use a SBC but after driving injected computer controlled engines I have to have one - I think

I'm looking for a simple/quick solution too. I'm not putting myself into the position of either having to find parts, or end up reselling the engine.

I'm still seriously considering a complete drop-out LS1 and mod the top-end and exhaust for more performance, but this will be much pricier due to intitial cost of the engine, plus parts, plus the labor to do the swap. If I mod this old 350 SBC, my only cost is the parts... I can do some light-duty top end work. I'll still have to pay a transmission shop to swap the TH400 for a built 700R4 though.

I'm opting for carbs... probably ... because I want a sixties retro look. This car is re-bodied as a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO and the originals had V12's with six dual choke Weber carbs (one choke per cylindar). Street versions had three carbs and a single long breather... sort of like an American triple deuce setup. I could buy the retro-styled Vintage Speed EFI system with six throttle bodies and velocity stacks but it's a whopping $2600

I just picked up a ls1 t56 with complete harness and computer for 1400 bucks. 40k on the combo so I don't think I paid to much. I love finding good deals going to make my swap cheaper than most I hope.

mike I've been looking for a long time and stumbeled on this one on another scene away from ls1's. your best bet is to look out side of the ls1 community if your looking for deal's mine came from somebody that's into s-10's which I am also but had a 01 ss camaro that gotten total a couple weeks ago. the whole car's getting parted out it just happens that I found out about it before he knew what it's worth. want's he found out it's value he still agreed on the deal so I lucked out. my next deal I'm hopping will be a roller s-10.if you can't find one though maybe you can convice a friend to wipe out a camaro and part it out cheap to a I don't know

Yes, of course!!! That's the way to find deals... where no one else is looking. Why didn't I think of that?!? Shhh... don't spread the word until I've found mine, okay?

Assuming the engine is good and all it's supposed to be... you were lucky and found an honest person of their word. This is a fairly rare thing these days.

I doubt I can convince anyone to destroy a nice car so I can buy parts... but it's a good idea
