Default Question about 4L60E

I finally got the Jeep out of the barn own its own power tonight...5.3l power that is. But it isn't running worth a damn, but that is another story. Anyway, it feels like the trans is stuck in drive. Shifts fine between reverse and drive, and is in gear in all drive positions (ie od,d,2,1), but it doesn't seem to have any kick. Is it possible for a 4L60E to get stuck in drive?

I had a very similar situation on startup, ended up that I had a bad relay. The transmission was not getting IGN + so it defaults to 3rd gear. You can manually get 1, and 2nd though if you move the shifter to 1st or 2nd. Do you also have a check angine light or codes? And can you manually shift to 1st or second?

After going through the manuals once again last night, I did indeed miss the power circuit to the trans/PCM. Tried moving the shifter to all positions, only got 3rd. The manual pretty much states 3rd gear only without electrical power. Everything else power wise for the engine is fused through the underhood fuse block, save this one circuit. Go figure. I've identified an unused switched circuit in the under hood fuse block to use. I just need to move the wire to a different hole in the connector...

Huh I was able to get 1,2,and 3, I wonder if my trans is just special or if someone else has "modified" something before I got it. It seems to be ok and never broke yet so I guess I will just pretend that never happened .

I certainly am not an expert here, but just driving along one day I lost 1st and 2nd gear. The trans was stuck in 3rd, but still had reverse. Do you have reverse? Turned out to be a shift-solenoid issue (for me anyway). There are two - one of which controls 1st and 2nd. I bought two from a friend who works at a dealer for less than $40, popped 'em in, and problem solved.

Moved the wire over last night, and drove it back into the barn this morning. 1st gear is now working. I'm going to road test it tonight to see if it is shifting into the other gears (and if my VSS arrangement works).

Power ON, I'm not certain. Check out the 5.3 wiring thread, I detailed what I did.

He probably has reverse, I know my trans did when I had a bad relay and was missing power to the trans. I was thinking that it was a shift solenoid issue on mine since when I check it was getting power, but what I did not know was that the relay was failing if you put a load on it the volt meter was not a large enough of a load to make it fail, but the trans was.

Took for a very short spin last night, and I seem to have all four gears. The engine isn't running quite right, probably because a few of the sensors aren't hooked up yet...
