Just a thought.
Yeah, most of the people I've talked to that have done the swap avoid the issue by swapping hoods. However I'm very fond of the shaker, plus I already paid a ton of money to have that hood nicely painted and the big firebird put on, and the decals on the shaker, and finally - I want there to be no external clues that my car has been "upgraded". I want everything to look bone-stock, with the exception of the wheels. There will be a couple other subtleties for those very knowledgeable, but they'll be darn difficult to pick out: 1) The stance will be different - for those in the know it will be an indication that the suspension has been upgraded. 2) The sound will definitely be different (and not for the better ) 3) The manual shifter will be coming up through an automatic console 4) I'm swapping the 78's 100MPH/6K speedo/tach for a '75 160mph/8k tach.

Everything else looks like a straight restoration. Oh yeah, the license plate is a giveaway too: LS1BNDT. But again, you have to be kinda knowledgeable to understand it.

Understood. That is why I am looking at the 79-81's only, pretty hard to tell the years apart externally at just a quick glance/once over........and if I could find an 81 TTA that would be even better. No need to get a new hood and could replace the motor/trans with whatever I wanted and it should hide under that hood nicely.

Good luck and keep us posted which way you end up going/what works best as I am sure you are not the only guy who wants to keep that stock/stealth-ish look.
