Ls1 fans mounted as pushers
From what I remember the problem with mounting the fans outside the radiator is that they block the incoming air when you are moving. To make up for this I went from a 28" to a 34" radiator and also removed the trans cooler, ac condensor and oil coolers from in front of the radiator. I am also relocating some bracket to increase air flow. Also I changed my grill from a chevy grill, with the bar in the middle, to an escalade grill with a much larger surface area.
With that being said will this be sufficient to cool my ls1? Im sure some of you with smaller cars and ls1 swaps needed to relocate the fans also and Id like to hear some real life experiences with them if you have em...thanks!
I feel it's more efficient in the back since you can use a proper shroud to get all the air pulled through the radiator as possible. Your larger opening will keep it cooler when driving, but not being able to run a open front radiator with a good shroud/fan in the back may cause overheating in traffic.
I realize this isnt the most efficient way to go but id like to "if" it will sufficiently cool the engine. If not I will have to figure something else out.
Does anyone know if the ls1 fans are only 80% effective when reversed? And do the blades need to be flipped/can they be flipped?
