A problem you may encounter is the early Mustangs have a narrow engine compartment due to the upper control arms carrying the weight. The spring towers definitely crowd the engine. You might want to consider changing out the front suspension too if you try and tackle this.

Ought to drop right in. A 351W is 25" wide, so is an LS1. Use 351W swap headers with LS1 flanges, put a 4L60E, beefed up T5, or a TKO behind it, and you're good to go. T56 won't fit without building a new trans tunnel.

I'm putting a 5.3L/T56 combo into my 65'. Currently getting the motor put together, but the big problem is with the huge transmission. I'm having to chop out a large chunk of the trans tunnel. I hope the carpet will have enough give to still cover it up. I'm running a Mustang II setup, so I wouldn't know about shock tower interference. It should be pretty fun when its done anyway.
