Thanks for the advice , but not only had i already done a search, its not the ls1 swap i have a question about its about a 4l80 and the trans tunnel.
I do thank you for trying to push me in the right direction though.

76ls1bird did a lot more than i am willing to do in my project.

I do not have a 4l80 to size up .. soooooooo if anyone out there has already take some measurements / installed or attemped to install one let me know.

It should fit without cutting up your tunnel. I believe the T56 is blockier (if there is such a word) than the 4l80E yet it fits fine. However, from what I have read, the 4L80E is a heavy trans and will need extra reinforcement on the trans Xmember

I would say that if a Turbo 400 would fit (and it does), the 4L80 should.

I am working on this now. I have a LQ9 engine and a 4l80e transmission. I am trying to figure out the best position to mount the engine and if I can retain the use of the front brackets for the ac, alt. and ps. I think the trans will fit fine. I am planning on using the 400 trans crossmember in my car. The car is a 1978 trans am. I also am going to try the pacesetter headers. I talked to BRP about their kit for this car and didn't like the price or cutting the trans tunnel. I should have the engine and trans installed in a couple of weeks. Send me a message if you want any pictures.

Just a word of advice, one of the problems with getting an LSx/4L80 combo to fit in the car is installation technique. The combination of the two was too big to clear my crossmember and firewall (72 chevelle) trying to angle them into the chassis. But when you install them separately, having the trans in place and dropping the engine straight down, with the exception of having to bang the trans tunnel in a couple of places (very minimal) everything fit fine. Like the other person said, if a th400 fits, and it does, the 4l80 will with minimal problem.

I know this is an old thread, but I am wondering if there has been any updates to the 4l80e being put in the 2nd gen? Any pictures? Problems? I have a '77 T/A with a 550 HP Pontiac 428 and am thinking about going with the 4l80e.
Thanks,
