Default Look what happens to the FAST intake when your LS2 backfires........BOOM!

I just built a new 402 stroker and installed in the RX 7 a couple weeks ago, I went to crank it over tonight and ....................BOOM! There goes my $800 + piece of garbage FAST intake.Thought you guys might get a good laugh like I did......after I was kicking and swearing up a storm.

Holy crap! That sucks man. What kind of compression are you running? I wonder how the stock intake would've held?

i dont think compression had to do with it. stock intake would have done the same, or worse.

You can buy a new lower. Sounds like maybe you messed up the firing order or something. Good luck!

On the same subject... what can be done to ensure this doesnt happen on a first start up like that??? I have the fast 90/90 setup, and Im getting close to firing my motor. Its been sitting out of the car for alittle less than a month Ide say... ide hate to go to start it and have that to deal with.

You want me to sell you my $850+ intake for $100 so you can replace the lower half for $300. Let me think about that..........No.Sorry.

dont backfire.

really, theres not much that can be done.
you could put the nitrous burst panels in... but ive always had my doubts that it will totally save the intake from cracking....

really, they just need to make them less shitty, and they wont blow apart with a normal, non-nitrous backfire... like the LS6 intakes.

What I do plan on doing is send the intake back to Summit today to see if they will warranty it.I was told that they wont but it's worth a try.If they wont replace it then I will buy a new lower 1/2. There is no way I would take a chance putting any kind of apoxy or JB weld on that part just cause I would hate for a little chunk to break off and get sucked into my intake and kiss my $12K+ motor bye bye.
The fast intake sucks and the lower 1/2 is ment to break. That why it's made of thinner materal. Why do you think they sell the lower 1/2 of the intake? What other choice do we have.I'm waiting for the new factory intakes to come out with a better flowing set-up then the FAST.

they sell it because it breaks.
it breaks for the same reason that the MAP sensor doesnt fit, and that one out of every 3 people on here have fitment issues..... because its cheaply made..
its a great airflow design, i mean, long runners, in that tight of a package, flowing that much is a tall order...but the end product still leaves alot to be desired...
what bugs me is i know what it costs to make.. so now that the R&D has paid for itself over and over, why is the damn thing still as expensive as it is?

what new factory intakes are you waiting for? the carb ones? they've been out for the cathedral port heads for years... the LS2 sucks compared to the LS6... and thats a step down from the LSX anyway... and i wouldnt expect any new kickass intakes for the old style ports from GM... im hoping they stick to this new L92 port style... or the LS7 style, both work for me.
now, you would lose the tuned runner length, and therefore some low end torque, with the carb intake, but from what ive seen, if you put it on correctly (meaning, dont just bolt it on, but match it) you'll see a gain over the LSX, even with just a mild cam.
