Almost Ready To Fire the LS1 (Suggestions)
My concern is the injectors having set for all this time. I read somewhere that you should attach a direct 12 volts to each one directly
and make sure you hear it "click". Anyone got any feedback on this situation?
I haven't put any fuel in the new aluminum gas tank with an inbourd fuel pump yet. I thought that would be the very last step to check out all the fuel lines to insure there are no leaks.
Should I turn the engine over several times with the fuel pump switch off to try and build up some oil pressure?
Anyway I would appreciate your comments and suggestions on this initial firing of an engine that has been idle for over 5 years. Thanks for your input in advance!
Pulled four plugs and turned it over until the oil pressure built up.
Go figure.
Same thing happened on a LS1 swap I did for a friend. It also being a returnless system, there was a lot of air in the fuel rail to bleed out.
good luck

I tested them with a homemade rig basically tossing 60PSI im my air compressor and sliding a piece of fuel line over the injector and over the compressor blow gun. I pressurized the injectors while quickly tapping them with voltage from the battery. You have to have quick hands as you really dont want to pulse the injector for more than half a second. You should hear the injector clicking, and have a nice fan of air pulsing out. If you have any that seem odd or don't click either try cleaning them or get some ebay injectors. To clean them, I soaked them in seafoam overnight and retested them. After that I still had one that was stuck so I bought a ebay set for $50 shipped. After the injectors went in the engine runs like new.
If I would have thought about it I would have probably pulled the entire rail as a unit with the injectors still in it and pressurized the rail. Would have made life easier, you can also pick up a injector pigtail for GM from the parts store for a few bucks to make life easier, or you could get your hands on a handheld injector pulser for about $75 they work great.
As for the other things to consider, just the common stuff have some buddies handy for extra eyes, make a list of every fluid the car takes and go check them, if you have a lasar non contact thermometer use it to check the headers and make sure they are all firing right, pressurize your fuel system check for leaks and blle the air out of the schrader valve. This takes a few times. other than that, good luck
