Default Location for 2nd coolant temp sensor?

I'm using the rear passenger side head for the sender to work with my stock gauge. I also want to run a VDO gauge, and was looking for a good place to put the sender. I've heard of people tapping the water pump, and some have found a plug on the side of the block (near starter). Are there any other locations, and what are the pros/cons of the 2 spots I mentioned above.

TIA!

What about the front of the drivers side head? The plug on the side of the block, I think you're referring to anyway, is where the 'vette has the OIL temp sender.
