Default Lt1 240.

I've been researching the idea of an LSx into my 240 for some time now, and decided that I should go LT1 over an LSx series, mainly because of cost-per-performance gained.

I have seen only 1 LT1 240 out there, and I'm sure others exist. I've got a few questions regarding the differences of the swap.

I know the mounts and such will not line up perfectly, but how far off are they really? How far are the LT1 mount locations farther forward/back than the LS1 from an f-body?

The crossmember will also need to be modified just like the LSx swap, but the R-32/33 x-members should solve that problem like the other, shouldnt it?

Headers will most likely be a problem again, but I can find a welder and do it myself if I have to, I'm not a noob when it comes to fabrication.

Another question would be: Would another sbc be a better canidate than an LT1, such as a 400?

a 6.0 or 5.3 truck motor is a better bet for you IMO. im assuming you are talking about a 240SX. you can get 6.0s and transmissions from the junkyard for about $1500. most LT1s go for more than that...

LT1s have the same mounts as gen one blocks

I am indeed talking about a 240sx...a '91 S13 hatchback to be more precise.

My main concerns are fuel injection and decent parts availability, so I figured newer SBC's would be perfect. I do have a friend selling his 355 soon in favor of a 406 that I could get a great deal on, but it would require a rebuild, as rod knock isn't too appealing. It is a carbeurated engine.

Am I safe to assume that a fuel-injection conversion kit would be more trouble than its worth? I feel it is better for FI (turbo in my case)apps. because you can tune it with a hell of alot more presicion via standalone, such as MegaSquirt II.

Thanks for the info on the truck engines and the mount locations, I'll look into this option more.

I would think any regular small block chevy parts would make the swap easy, but the LSx would be the better choice due to the lower weight. Either motor will be fun though.

I am not concerned with the weight of the iron blocks, as the end result won't have much of an effect on the overall weight of the car. Straight line speed is more important to me than taking corners at 100+mph.

To be honest, I have 3 440 six-packs, 4 727 transmissions, and 2 dana 60's I've been thinking about toying with.

just put a 440 in it if you are familiar with the motors and you dont really care about MPG or anything like that.

carbed SBCs arent all that great IMO

A 440 would definately be a screamer in a car of this size, but I'm not sure if a 727 would fit in the 240's trans tunnel. It will be my DD after the swap is said and done, and a center console would be nice. I do know how to make custom fiberglass peices, but that is more than I really want to do.

I would have to fabricate the mounts myself(as with the SBC too).

I'm sure the 440 would fit length- and width-wise, but as far as top-mount depth goes, I'd probably need a cowl hood(that doesn't exist for my car, a custom piece would have to be made.) to clear it.

Also it would require a custom radiator and fan shroud to clear the big engine.

In theory, it sounds like a fun project, but more than I would want to do for a street car. A track-only car however.....

So, I'll ask my question again:
Does anybody know of any reliable and kinda cheap fuel injection conversion kits?

yeah, you have LT1 heads machined to fit on the gen one block and you have a LT1 intake converted to run a distributor.

your serious best bet for getting fuel injection is to buy a complete LT1, we got one for 700 with harness and trans complete

Thats what I thought. Any particular casting or donor I should look for? Different chamber sizes etc?
