I'm looking for a place to install a 1/2" pipe temp sender in a LS2. The gauge must use the origional to work right according to my gauge man. Any ideas? Thanks,Hal

1/2" pipe? That's huge for a gauge sender. If it's an autometer, pull the plug in your passenger side cylinder head towards the back of the motor next to cylinder 8's exhaust port, buy a 1/4" npt to 1/8" npt adapter, and a 1/4" npt tap, run the tap in the 12mm hole you just unplugged, no drilling required, put some teflon on the threads, screw em in and call it done. Otherwise you're gonna be looking for that strange 12mm to 1/2" pipe thread adapter, good luck on that, maybee summit or your gauge manufacturer?

Autometer #2277 1/8inch to 12mm adapter, and their #2259 electrical gauge
cylinder head sending unit. Both were under $25 from Advance Auto call
autometer a lot of parts stores stock them in the warehouse. I put
this in the rear of the pass side ls2 head after removing allen plug.

I just ran into trouble with water temp sender too! I used an adapter from Equus which worked beautifully until I over torqued it leaving the threads in the head. Then I ordered another adapter (they only came in kits).....this kit didn't include the size I needed. So last night I ended up modifying one of their adapters and tapping the 12mm hole to 1/2"

Buy the Autometer has much more brass and is heavier, it's worth the price($11.50). Comes with a metal copper washer also not a cheaper rubber oring. I had the Equus also didn't like the quality.

As I'm trying to keep the origional look of the gauges in my 63 SWC, the only sender that will work right is 1/2" pipe. My gauge man thinks he can install the thermister from the 1/2" sender into an !/8" fitting-hope he's right.Should know in a couple of weeks. Just another small bump in the whole process...

time to bring up an old thread. i am about to install a coolant temp into my conversion. if i do the ATM-2277 adapter and ATM-2259 sending unit, will this new sender send the correct signal to my autometer coolant temp guage?? also how accurate will this new sending unit be as it does not have the longer solid portion sticking past the threads??

i dont think the sender with the long solid portion will fit into the adapter for the lsx threads. thats why i was asking. however just sittin here thinkin about it, the adapters that came with the guage from autometer dont allow the solid portion to stick out. so i think i'll be fine there. my only question now is does the 2259 sending unit have the same calibration as the sending unit that came with the water temp guage.

What gauge are you using? Is it the factory one with the old style large sender? If it is there are a couple other solutions. When John B. did his original LS1 swap he drilled and tapped the hole in the head for the larger sender. I cut down my factory sender and re-threaded it 12mm x 1.50. A bunch of people have drilled and tapped the top of the water pump for the larger senders. There was also at least one person who put the sender in the heater hose with a T.

i am using all brand new autometer arctic white guages. i would really like to use an existing hole. i dont want to drill any new holes in to my motor. its just another place that could cause a leak down the road. i am using the plugged hole on the passenger head. also, i already have the adapter to fit the ls1's threads, i just dont think the sender that was sent with the guage will fit into. thats why i wanna know about the cylinder head temp. i looked at summit but it doesnt tell if they are of the same calibration or not.
