What did you pay for your engine?
Hello, I am planning the buildup of my 86 Monte Carlo SS. I would like to use a LQ4 or LQ9 with a 4L80E. I need your help getting a feel for what I should expect to pay for a nice complete engine/trans.
A local salvage yard quted me $3k for an LQ4 with under 50k miles, no trans. Does that seem high?

I paid $4200 shipped to my door for my 2001 LS1 *and* T56 6spd with about 30k miles on it - this included harness, manifolds, transmission, PCM, MAF and accessories, full pedal setup - I got everything except the hydraulic actuator for the clutch and ... I think that's the only real thing that was totally missing.
This was for the WS6 model engine.

They can usually get a truck engine with less than 100 miles on it out the door and to you for around $2500-$3000. If you live near to them, expect a better deal. They have several engines listed on eBay if you want to give them a look on there.

These guys are an extreme pleasure to deal with and are very helpful/knowledgable. Feel free to call them and ask questions. Highly recommended

lets see, bought back my totaled LS1 car for $1500.. so thats a 2001 LS1 and A4 for that price..
bought a LQ4 with 50,000 miles on it for $1300 with harness and computer... the guy said he could sell a transmission with it for another $800...
so yes, he is about $1000 more than he should be. you can get high milage LQ4s for under $1000

I paid $400 for my 5.3 with 40k on it however the donor vehicle had a interior fire that melted the engine cover and wiring so it looked pretty nasty until I cleaned it all up... I had to swap some LS1 parts over (had to do it anyways) and had to buy some coils but still came out cheap

Second that on Schramm. I bought my 5.3 from them. Less than 100 miles. 2005 Suburban, came with perfect wiring harness and pcm,all accessories and manifolds. I'd go for the transmission from them also next time. Sometimes they have the y-pipes and cats as well. $2300 to my door in Arkansas.

$1350 for a complete LQ4 from a 2004 Silverado with 26,xxx miles, less accessories and harness (didn't want or need them). An additional $800 for complete 4L80E from same truck. $145 shipped it to my door. Sourced from a salvage yard in RI, found via Car-Part.com. Even had a warranty.

I paid $3,000 for a LS1 and T56 out of a 2000 Z28 with 30k miles. No accessories, no harness, no pcm. There are better deals out there but this was a buddy of mine, I knew the motor, I knew the prev owner, and there was no shipping involved.
