I drilled mine on the motor. I coated the drill and tap bit with grease so the shavings would stick to them. Then I took my shop vac and stuck the nozzle up the waterpump outlet and turned it on while I drilled. With those precautions I am satisfied that I did not leave significant shavings behiind. The pump is aluminum and the walls are pretty thin. You should not overtighten the NPT fitting as it gets wider as it goes in. I suppose it could crack the pump housing if it was tightened too much.

Where did you pick up that fitting? Hardware store or hydraulic shop?

1/8 NPT - 90º to single barb, multi-barb, or tube?
