I am putting a 2000 LS1 6spd in an 81 Monte Carlo. I am just getting started. I have the motor and trans. Just getting ready to send the body and frame out for media blasting, then the engine work starts!

Does anyone have the dimensions to modify the f body pan or is there a cheaper alternative?

Just knotch the frame crossmember and box it back in. That way your pan can stay stock and you won't have to remove it. I can measure mine this afternoon if you want.

Why not sure move the engine back to make it clear, thats what i did.

I don't think it will go back far enough in a Monte. Mine is real close to the firewall and would need at least another inch to even start to clear without knotching. Do you still have the heat and a/c box in yours?

You can set the engine far enough back so that you don`t have to notch the pan/frame.....or at least you should be able to because the monte and the EC are the same frame/body structure. Theres a huge but coming though......you will have to notch the heater box and delete the rearmost coil support boss on the pass valvecover. It really isn`t too bad of a job, and once the motor is in no one could see you even did it. There should be some pics on my f-quick account of this.

I think I remember seeing where BMR Fabrication has special motor mounts that move the motor up higher and that way the crossmember does not have to be notched. JB www.bmrfabrication.com
