I used a cheap one as well. Then I went and bought another to double check and it was about 2* off. I put them on a level and chose the one that was closest to 0* at level. Might check and make sure the angle finder is ok. I dropped the 2nd one I got once and it was screwed.

You might take it to a chassis shop and have them measure it w/ a good digital gauge.

Not that it is not the problem that we are looking for, but have you looked at other area ? Wheels/tire, Brake Rotors, Axle alinement..?

I have had a problem with my 84 Z-28 ever since I blew up the transmission. I get a vibration between 77-80mph.. I have tried everythng to get rid of it.. got the Drive shaft balanced, new U-joins, had it balanced by two different shops, two different T-5's.. changed the front bearing wheet bearing, alinements.. etc.. still trying, so I fell your pain.. but for now, I just don't drive between 77 and 80... which usually keeps me a 80+mph on the freeway.. and a eye on the rear mirror.

I also don't think that not being in the 2-3 deg range should be a problem. My 4x4 Van has way more (as any raised 4x4 usually ends up being more that what is suggested) than 5+ deg. and it don't vibrate all the way up to 90mph and it has 33" tire that can't be very well balanced.

I just think we need to keep looking at other areas too.. I know my old 57 chevy had a bad bearing in the Diff and it caused a vibration as speeds.

all my wheels were balanced twice, i figured it woudnt hurt because i wanted stick on weights any way and they were perfect, the rear end has all new bearings[ twice ] just to make sure and that sucked after 90$ and gear oil, i even borrowed a friends t56 to make sure it wasnt the tranny. the rear on all A bodies are 1" ofset from the centerline of the frame wich iwas told was fine but another guy said it would make a compound angle

Yeah.. I balance everything I could twice including the Wheels too... As far as the Clutch, It is time for a new one soon.

As far as the u-join clips.. No.. Due to the type of joins.. I had the shop install and balance. But i will check it next time I am out from under the Chevelle and roll over and under the Z-28..

Thanks for the suggestion.. It seem we have many of the same problems and attempts to resolve it.

Do you feel more vibrations in the Steering Wheel or the Shiffer ? Drive line vibarations are hard to find cause the just transmit throught the whole car.. !

Have any questions with install lt me know.

Well keep us posted, as I am interested in your vibration problem. The Chevelle only needs the Exhaust to be completed, A Cold Air box to the Cowl hood, a little more wiring problems and projects, Trans Tunnel rebuild and a shifter.

Schlosserl,
sorry it took so long i have been busy. i do have pics but i am not savy enough to post them here. i get a to large a file notice. i could email them to you if you want. i read that you used the corvette mounts, it they are like the camaro ss they are way to tall so you must have cut them down (i hope). i did not cut the oil pan but i did notch the cross member and reweld it. (i also see there are aftermarket oil pans oil now just for this $400 yikes). we alsoi had to modify the fire wall slightly as the engine sits back to far they way we did it. got fuel lines, pump regulator, brake lines run and fenders on what headers have you found that will fit?

also i will ask my shop foreman about the vibration and see what he says.

i used the camaro manifolds, i had to cut redrill and tap so they would fit between the frame,i used corvette accesories not mounts. i used 350 chevy mounts and didnt have to touch my frame. the only problem is the tierod hit my oil panon right turns so i had to raise my motor mounts. i am thinking my vibration is driveline angle issues. also your elec fuel pump might be awfull noisy without insulators going into the monster echo chamber we call trunks. hooker makes ls1 swap chevelle headers but they are $$$$ 550 for black painted or $$$650 for coated, uck the stock manifolds flow pretty good with true duals so you could save $$$ there

i would rather get some ls6 heads than headers, that is next on my list, than maybe take out a loan and get some coated headers. the corvette fuel filter has a built in regulator just to let you know. i like the rear coil overs are they adjustable?

Yes that is a 99 corvette filter in the pic. And yes the coil overs are adjustable . so next on your list is heads. i was thinking cam for myself but now that you mention it i did see some new performace heads coming out from gm for a very good price.

damn it. stupid vibration. axle bearings are new, axles were straightend i think 6 speeds are a bit harder to fit than the autos, on driveshaft#10 it seems from 3 diferent places cant be driveshaft unless they are all stupid.
