Default Where to find wrecked donor cars?

It seems like the best way to do a swap on the cheap is to buy a wrecked vehicle. Is there an easy way to find one? Can you just call an insurance company? If you can do all the work yourself I think you could almost do a car conversion (mine is a 68 Firetird) for a couple grand or less (part out what's left over). Thanks.

Local junk yards and ebay are the BEST.

After that try something like...

I've seen specialty junkyards for F-bodies such as Hawks and Billy Grahams, but where can you find a wrecked C5/C6??

You'll have even more luck a while after heavy rains or snowfall

There are also salvage yards that specialize in Corvette's, there's a place called Vette2Vette outside of Chicago. Do an internet search for "Corvette salvage"

Nobody has ever called an insurance company and offered them a hundred bucks over what they might get from a wrecking yard? Some of you guys may even have a yard you could fill us out-of-towners in on...

Thanks.

no, insurance companies dont care. you have to get at the owner of the car.. tell them you will give them $500 more than buy back. (wrecked my own LS1 car and bought it back for $1500)

Watch for auctions also. You may have to have a dealer's license or know someone who does. One of the guys in our club has purchased 2 wrecked Highway Patrol Camaros, and more recently has been picking up police Caprices and Crown Vics. Most of these have mostly highway miles and are very well maintained.
