Updating a Tahoe

I'm wondering if anyone has swapped a Vortech motor for an LSX in a Tahoe or Pickup?
I may have a lead on a '98 tahoe with a blown motor. Also, I ran across a 5.3 with wiring, ecm and trans. Can this swap be done with factory parts,i.e brackets and mounts? Chuck

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this statement, but the 98 tahoes still had the old gen I style 5.7L vortec motor. You can definitely swap in a LSx style engine/trans but it would take just about as much effort as most conversions you see here, especially if you want to keep the stock a/c compressor since it interferes with the frame. But it could definitely be made to work and you can integrate everything to work with the stock gauges and everything. With regards to mounts, you would want to use the stock frame and engine mounts with the plate adapters to make them work with the LSx engine (see sticky at top of this section).

was it '99 they switched? i know the 'vette was '97, i thought they went to the gen3 in 98. my bad.

Nope, Tahoe didn't get it until 2000 and you could still get the obs tahoe w/ the 5.7L in 2000 if you bought the Tahoe Limited. The trucks switched in 99 to the Gen III motors but similarly you could get the Silverado Classic that last year w/ the obs and 5.7L also
