Default 99+PCM with 98 harness?

I'm starting on my lsx swap into my 72 el camino and i'm wondering if I can use a 99-02 pcm with a 98 camaro engine harness? will these different types of pcms work with the 98 harness? I've tried searching but I couldn't find anything on this. Any info would be awesome Thanks

Are you sure you searched real good?? How about reading through the sticky?

This question gets brought up often. The 98 PCM/Wiring harness is different than the 99+. If you are using a motor from a 98, you should try your best to use the PCM and wiring from a 98. Less headaches for you.

Visa versa...if you are using a 99+ motor, you dont want to use a 98 PCM or wiring. I think the pin outs are different on the two PCM styles, as well as the sensors used on the engine. Someone else might chime in with more info...but I know you can find out everything you need by going through the sticky and past threads.

The harnesses are different. You can move the pins around and use a later PCM with the 98 harness but it will be a pretty tedious job. The only sensor that I know is different is the coolant temp sensor which should be cheap enough to pick up. I'm using a 98 engine with a 99 harness and PCM BTW, but haven't finished all of my wiring yet.

you can use the 98 engine, just need to change coolant temp sensor and harness to use the 99 ecu

Yeah...you can change the pins... but to me that just seems like a pain when you could probably pick up the correct harness etc etc...

Is it just the coolant temp that was different? I thought the knock sensors and a couple others were different as well...?

You can use the temp 98 sensor, it just has an extra wire for the instrument cluster. I would recommend you use whichever knock sensors that match for the 98/99 you go with. 99 and up definitely give you more software/tuning possibilities. You could repin the harness-I did. Or just get one. Depending on which software route you go HPTuners/EFI Live, the only advantage I see in the 98 PCM is with EFI Live you would not have to use a vin license ($99). For that little savings though compared to the down the road advantages of the 99+up PCM software capabilities I would go with the newer PCM.
