Default Mercedes Conversion anyone???

Well, I went over to the MB forum and proposed an LS1 or 2 swapped into a C240. Yeah I was met with a lot of opposition and accusations of sacrilege. So I'm through it.

What do you guys think?

And yes I've owned a 98' TA and the LS1 motor has me hooked like Tyrone Biggums to crack

Do it!
steering would probably need to be converted to rack and pinion but who knows.
factory crossmember might work with front sump pan.
would be nice to see an LSx powered c-class

I want to. I know alot of Fab would have to go into it. But its worth it. I figure all custom mounts, driveshaft, rear and LSD (unless I can source one). I figure I would need about $13K or so......so this will be a long project haha.

You could convert to ford 8.8 diff, like a member at mercedesshop.com
He made his own axles that mated to the benz outer splined shafts.
sorta like vette axles with 2 u joints each.

Thats a good idea......I'll have to save all this info haha. My plan was to have all the parts fabricated and ready before installation so I could do it all at once. So I am going to approach this one piece at a time. Instead of installing an engine and having the car sit.

CLK would be a good project if you didn't have to pay so much to get your hands on one.

I remember reading a study once that said a Mercedes sedan was the LEAST likely vehicle to get a ticket in regardless of speed, as long as you aren't being an *** and driving around everybody, just another car in a fast moving pack sort of thing.

They are probably jealous that it will cost you 1/10 of the cost to replace a blown up motor. Their cars are overpriced and the engineering is not much more than skin deep. Do it.

Yeah, well its funny because the young owners are all for the idea and think it will be the ultimate sleeper mb. The older ones are skeptical and think its a bad idea and a waste of money.

And the whole engineering thing yeah........they are pieces , nothing but hype and lots of cables. But I'm not gonna complain about that, its just a lil too slow for my taste.

I contacted Hinson Supercars and they said they could help fab up some mounts for whatever I need. All I gotta do is bring the car in to them, so I'm aiming for that this summer.

You better bring a briefcase full of money too. They do incredibly good work, and charge accordingly.

getting a motor physicaly into a car is going to be the least expensive and easiest part of the swap. wiring ALWAYS bites people in the *** (and wallet)

I bought a custom wiring harness to put the LS6 into my 560SEC, it was around $500 and that was inexpensive. That doesn't include my time to hook it up and more importantly, figure out what portion of the Mercedes harness can I/should I remove at that time. In my case, the battery is going into the trunk so the ECM and Cruise Amp can sit where the battery resided. I'm also going to use the Mercedes cruise stalk for the GM cruise control - more wiring. The GM AC compressor will be in the Benz so I'll put GM ends on the compressor clutch wiring. Speedometer & tach wiring modifications, ECM programing, oil pressure sensor wiring, etc. etc. Then there's the vacuum plumbing!!

None of this is easy, but the first time I light that LS6 off in the garage with just headers so I can drive the SEC to the muffler shop........ :-) OMG!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my 30 minutes of open collectors, but spent a lot of time for years afterwards trying to stop stuff from rattling that the vibration loosened up, really messed up stuff inside the dash.
