make it an all around car.. youd have to do so much to get it to do good at the strip, just be fine with running 10s with the IRS and then ripping it up at the track. make sure you take that to some Ferrari meet.. dont pop the hood, run some laps and then later come back and pop the hook, or trunk, or whatever youd call it :p

Do they do transverse mounted transaxles also? The engine in the Ferrari sits sideways. I've been trying to finds a suitable tranny for my LS6 FIero for a while now...

i would also do an all around car, drag and track...would be awsome! even tho the car only made 205hp think about what it was up against....a 170hp corvette? lol that weighed more. at the time...it was "faster" than most cars out. but i cant wait to see this thing. id personally do a single turbo setup then see some hard spooling launch videos with 315 DR's

If memory serves me right the 4T65e HD used with the 5.3l LS4, has the V6 bolt pattern. I thought GM redid the LS4 block with that pattern to match the V6 trans. Therefore LS2 will not bolt to a 4T65e HD. Its been a while since I have heard this, and its been a long while since I have messed around with GM FWD, but it might be worth double checking.

Also I never knew Ferrari did transversely mounted engines.

There are some W body guys who claim to be able to build those 4T65e to take some power. The W body doesn't make the same kind of power as a LSx motor. I'll see if I can find some of the claims. I have no Idea about the bolt pattern.

Thanks everyone! I'd like to make this car do everything well, which sounds like what most people here agree on. If we could get this car close to handling and running with a new Z06, then we'd have done a great job. Weight wise, it should be there. If we locate the fuel system in the front, then maybe we can keep this car from understeering.
A manual transmission would be more desirable for overall performance, but the tranny is going to be the biggest hurdle.

trany will be dificult. might be worth looking at some of the Honda stuff and see if you could get an adaptor plate to "make" it work! lol

apart form that i dont know of many FWD tranmistion that are designed to take the torque!

think the car should be manual and a true street/strip/curcit car!

You might want to contact Loyde down at Fast Fieros. He has done a lot of work with GM and mated LSx engines with 4T65E-HD transaxles. He could save you from having to redue a lot of R and D he has already completed.

GM Performance Parts sells the hard parts to make the 4T65E-HD an extremely sturdy transaxle. There are quite a few turbo Grand Prixs well over 500 WHP.

My GTP is making >400 ft lbs through a mildly warmed over 4t65e-hd (blue clutches, upgraded spragues and a shift kit, along with an LSD). That's in a much heavier car with a roots blower causing the torque curve (better put, a tabletop). There are many cars making quite a bit more then that pretty reliably through built transmissions. It's not cheap by any means, but it certainly can be done. With EPP's rates, I'm sure they can swing the coin for it.

Keep it transverse. Use the g-force dog ring transaxle. It will be sweet.

Were planning on running a fuel cell in the front of the car, the two saddle tanks when moved would make a great place for twin turbos!
