trust me you do not want to try drifting without power steering. atleast on stock steering ratio. a few companies have modded setups to get really short steering ratios to get like full lock at half lock etc. just depends. honestly its not worth doing.

Nice score . If I was to get a 240 that is the bodystyle that I would get, I just think it looks more agressive than the others. Can't seem to find any like that for a reasonable price around here though. Probably for the best anyway, one project at a time. Good luck with the swap.

fawk, I thought I was stoked for buying a black 97 auto last week but you made out like a freaking bandit! like I said before, FAWK! well done man, amazing price! the manual swap is easy peasy while doing an LS1 conversion because you can use an s13 or s14 pedal box and then continue with the aftermarket clutch master cylinder and clutchlines like any other LS1 swapper would need. you can just cut the brake pedal to size or you can swap out the entire pedal box for one from a manual trans chassis.
here's mine, its soooooooo clean its like its only 2-3 yrs old-
I have no idea when I'll be LS1 swapping mine, the FC is more than enough fun.

with the powersteering gone less drag on the motor/ cleaner engine bay/ get rid of the steering box for header room. just gotta find some manual rack. i'm sure i could rig something up. did S12s have power steering? just pondering ideas

^a lot of people like the feel of now power steering. you get alot more steering feel without it. it is not bad driving without it when up to speed. if you really want to move it or its for keeping drag off the motor. get an electric one. wire up a mr2 one and you're set

Ive had power and non power, theyre both okay, but I'd have to say power steering is the best.
I would probably want a manual rack on a roadcourse for precise feel and steering thats never too easy, but for every other kind of driving and racing, I'd want power steering.

Also keep in mind that you can adjust the feel of the power steering on some of the power steering systems (don't know if you can buy them for stock 240 racks or GM racks for that matter), especiallly the dirt track racers, where on the racks they run they can switch out the tensioning rod to adjust how much assitance you get. In the dirt track case, where steering quickers are used pretty commonly, they really need the added assitance that power steering gives them for it would be hard to manually move the rack back and forth that quickly with human power alone.
That's my $.02 on it.
