Default rx7 build

I want to build a fc rx-7 What i'm planning so far is a Carbed LS1 using a ported set of 241's that i have laying around. are there any other carb manifolds out there besides the edelbrock ones? also any ideas on gearing and cam choice? It's going to be a budget drag car very little street use maybe just aroung the block lol. I'm thinking big cam big carb but using stock manifolds (headers just cost to much $$$$ would ruin the whole budget thing) the gearing could be kind of mild ,light car and going to be using a powerglide with undecided stall speed what do y'all think as of right now i have a shortblock and the heads i just started thinking this over yesterday so you guys give me all the feedback you can . and how light can you get a FC rx7 ?

If you plan on keeping the stock rear or swapping in a Turbo II rear your gearing choices are pretty limited... 3.90 and 4.10 are the only way it was available I believe. You might have to swap in a 9" if you're looking for something else.

who builds a 9" to go into a rx7? i have heard the rears out of the turbo gtu cars are a really tough unit. i would have to compare prices to see what would be my best option. non turbo car with a swaped rear or spend a little more for a turbo car right off the bat.

The TII rear will get you to low 10s on slicks for a while..... It is tough. For drag radials, I wouldn't even worry about it.

For headers just get some cheap BBK mustang headers and swap out the plate for an LS1. The primaries line up fine. It fits fine on both sides. Big cams and stock manifolds aren't usually very friendly.

I'm not sure if anyone (company) builds one, but it has been done. The stock turbo rear end is pretty tough if you're planning for a street/strip car. I was just suggesting that you might need something else if you're planning on a gear ratio other than 4.10 or 3.90 because I think that's all that is available.

Granys has a 8.8 inch rear end for the FC.

maybe i should just do a fox body. i'm sure i can get a body for next to nothing and the rear would be no problem then, plenty of room 4 headers. anyone know how the weight of a stripped down fox body compares to that of a rx7 fc?

Fox body is a better bet for drag racing just because of the rear suspension/gearing and header availability.

+1. if you are going for a budget drag car that would be a better choice. i think they get down to 2700lbs sometimes. think of it as a vette vs. an f-body.

thanks guys the light weight of the rx7 is what made me want to do the swap in the first place but the ease of doing a fox body and the lower cost has me thinking it over now!

yea if your just wanting a light weight drag car for cheap. go fox body all day. parts are not what i would call more common than the ls1 rx7 but the frame will handle it alot easier all around from what ive seen.

not to mention an ls1 fox is sooo controversial and just plain nasty compared to the overhyped and played out rx7 lol.
