Default carbed LS1

Ok here is the deal a buddy is wanting to put a carburated LS motor in his 55 chevy. I am trying to help him figure out hte details of this build. I already know that there are intakes out on the market for the engine but I am just wondering how reliable are these set ups and if im thinking right you do have to run a distributor right?

Thanks for any help.
Wes

You don`t have to run a distributor, you can buy the eldelbrock intake with the ignition controller to control the coils.

If you want to run a distributor you can, I believe GM performance parts sells a front cover to hold a distributor.

Jegs also sells the front cover, but it is set up to run a ford distributor and fuel pump.

you can go either route, but using the dist setup is going to cost you more, but look better unless you can hide the coil packs and run some nice sheetmetal valve covers or something.

I am using the msd 6010 (same thing as the edelbrock controller) and controlling fuel with megasquirt. 6010 is working amazing, no way would I want to go backwards to a distributor, all you do is plug in some wires and BAM! perfect ignition timing(that you can also tune if you want)
If you think coil on plug looks ugly (I think it looks sweet!) then just build some rediculous huge fiberglass engine cover with a matching paint job so it looks like your engine is a box.

I am using the same box, i would never go with a distributor, this thing fired right up first try no messing with the dist,

No i dont think so, just have your tank made so you can run a fuel line to it or get a fuel cell, and run a electric pump for a carb, you need 6-7psi

Looks good, pray! Nice motivation for me ...

Does surprise me though that you'd go carb after all the hard work to get the EFI in there (well, hard for a guy like me).

i bought the car with the ls1 conversion already done, just not very well from what i've found after owning the car....LOTS of electrical problems and i got tired of dealing with the car breaking down. i hate electical issues, so that's what's made me decide to start the swap. btw, i've only owned the car for about 5 months now, but it's been sitting almost the entire time.

I am running the 6010 and works great. Nice and smooth, esp when the carb is jetted properly and air fuel is set. Good luck!

ok, getting closer now. i don't have the fuel system made up yet, but wednesday eve i got the ignition all wired up, checked to see if the motor would crank, sprayed a few shots of gas in the car via an old windex bottle, and started the car 10-12 times. the car started with the turn of the key 1st time, every time! not bad for 3 days worth the work i think.
