Default Cold air system

I have installed a LS1 in a 1962 Corvette but the engine is so close to the radiator that I can't seem to find an air filter that will work except the high priced ones from Street & Performance.
Does anyone know of another company that makes one that may fit seem I am cramped for space?
Thanks,
Wade

A pic or two would help here. If you are very close to the radiator you may need to use a cobra head 90 degree elbow off your throttle body to make the turn so you have room for your MAF and air filter. The cobra heads are ugly but they get you turned quicker than a conventional or short radius 90. Get those pics up soon! I wanna see since I'm doing the same swap into a 61.

If you have room for an elbow and some tubing, then you can get the filter away from the radiator. I got my stuff for that from Jags That Run, and got the filter from Summit.

Is there anything scientific that goes into that, or is it just a couple of ebows and an air filter?

I need something similar and I don't want to put something together that causes surging or a CEL.

It's pretty straight forward...put in enough sweep in the elbow to not cause turbulance or to restrict the flow by reducing the ID of the tubing too much. I also wanted to bring in outside air to the engine so I cut a hole in the radiator support to do this. The air filter will be attached to this opening behind the grill. You could do as LS1MCSS did and leave the air filter under your hood off to the side where, theoretically there is more room.
