Default LS1 Conversion Questions

Before we go jumping into this project (LS1 / T56 into a 67 RS/SS Camaro) what pitfalls are we missing? We have been studying the net for weeks trying to make sure we know exactly what we are getting into, as this car would need to be running perfectly by July 4th. For starters, besides the mods they show at Street and Performance in their little install blurbs:
-Oil Pressure Sending unit addition
-Coolant Sensor addition to pass head
-Oil Pan modification
-in our case, A/C removed.
-Steam Line connected to water pump
-No cat, so reprogram to eliminate rear O2's
-Swivel 45* thermostat housing

what are we missing for mods to the donor engine (most likely 99 or 02)?
What do we do about emissions equipment like EGR?

We are looking at Speartech for the harness mods and re-program. Will this include the relays for the fans? If not, what setup has been working good for people? We plan on doing like in the big thread, and use a stock rad and fans.
What do we do about reverse lockout and backup lights? DO we need the reverse lockout? For anyone that has done the mod, is it worth the $500 for the tailshaft conversion kit on the trans to hookup the mechanical speedo, or is it better to get an adapter box? How much does this tailshaft kit move the shifter forward? Anyone know how far forward we need to move the shifter to get it in the console? Ideas? We will use the 6cyl gas pedal assy with lokar cable to operate throttle. How have you handled the starter and alternator hookup? Is this handled in the harness conversion? Who can reccomend a decent crossmember that will allow the e-brake to clear? Is there any reason we can't use the stock exhaust manifolds, or are we looking for conversion headers? Can anyone recomend a decent dual exhaust that doesn't hang too low, and uses a transvers muffler? We aren't starngers to working on cars, but this is a fast forward to the space age with this fancy engine. The computer controlled fuel injection bit is new for us. Can anyone recomend a decent drivline specialist in the Twin Cities area (MN) for building the new driveshaft? Overall, the project appears to be pretty straight forward, and that is what has us very concerned. Is there a decent book out there on LS1 conversions that spells out the little things (like eliminating emisions parts we don't need)? Thanks for any help you can provide....

While, I can help with a couple of those questions. The starter and alternator are handled in the harness. You will not have to do anything for the alternator, because all of its wiring is in the LS1 harness, you will have to connect the starter. To connect the starter you can either run the starter wire from your camaro`s original wiring harness directly to the starter, or you can hook the wire from your car to the LS1 harness starter wire.

For a book about swapping the LS1`s check out GM`s book GM LS1 installation guide, PN 88959384
