An aluminum engine radiates heat pretty fast. Takes a while for it to get up to temp idling.

At least your car gets warm! I know this is apples to oranges, but in my 81 I have a 160 stat, 17" fan and a Griffin aluminum radiator. When it's 65 outside, I'm lucky if it gets to 150 when I'm driving! It's usually at 145ish, and won't get above 160 even idling in traffic. I'm going to put a 180 stat in it as soon as I get a chance.

It comes down to seasonal car maintance, espeacially if you live in climates that have very cold and/or hot weather during different times of the year and you drive during them. It is a PIA, but changing the T-stat is a good Idea (if needed) to keep your DD in the correct operating range for both Performance, Milage and emissions.

^^Yeah, I know how important fluid change is (I don't know if you're referring to me or the TS). All my fluids are new except the diff fluid and the brake fluid (which will be, along with a booster, master cyl, calipers, rotors, pads, wheel cyl's and all brake lines) as soon as I get off my lazy butt and do it. I put the 355 in last june, and the 160 thermostat in last august. I bought a 180 and had it for a couple months, but it wasn't working properly so I took it back and got a 160.

Good advice on your part though!

Nope.. just my idle 2 cents .. At work and trying to avoid work... LOL

But Downset71 might consider getting a better T... try Jagstahtrun.com for a better T for the Steam line.

hopefully the tee fitting is the absolute last of my gliches!! trust me, grey PVC holds up to almost any chemical at most temps. (i work for NYC DEPT OF DRINKING WATER, D.E.P.)cant be any worse than the cheap black plastic fittings the donor car came with.as for t-stat, i might drop down to a 180. still havent drove the car yet to see what temps it runs at. I am using A-body 4-core radiator with 04 GTO dual elec fans.
