Default This problem is 2 years old its time to fix it..

Car is a ls1 swap in a foxbody mustang. Problem the car never starts on its own (cold starts only). I always have to smash the pedal in to get it to start. After it starts it runs great. But after it seats over 5-6hrs or over night it won't start without alittle pedal action . I'm using a A1000 pump & aeromotive bypass regulator and aeromotive fuel rails. FP is good (60psi). I swapped out the injectors this evening to see if I had any that leaked. Car has a good tune on it also. Is there anything else I can check? I'm going to try and start it in the morning hopefully it fires right up. TIA

I might look at the idle air control valve also.

yeah its possible that you don't have enough in the tune on start up also.. or even too much

We gone over that tune pretty good. I turned the key over 5 times before it started on its own. It backfired and started right up. It acts like its flooded on cold starts. Thats why I changed injectors. Car runs damn good at the track though.

imports do that when the coolant temp sensor goes bad...the car thinks that its so0o0o cold it dump alot of fuel in and you have to open the throttle to get extra air in...try a new one...if it works ill only charge you a million dollars

I was going to suggest the coolant temp sensor as well.

My 305 TPI motor would do that. In case you dont know, that motor had a cold start injector. A 9th injector that added extra fuel for cold starts... Well the CTS went bad, and would make for extra long starts. It was just enough to disturb things with that cold start up that I couldnt get it goin without some pedal.

Worth a shot...cheap and easy....

Mine never threw a code...then again thats older technology. Im thinking that the sensor could be working...just stuck on the "hot" or "cold" range. So it passes the self test but just gives the computer false info. Think about it...the computer trusts the CTS to tell it what temp the motor is at. So its going to listen to it as long as its giving a value. Hence no light, and weird start up issues. Just a thought...

Let us know what you figure out!

well think of what you are doing by steping on the pettal. The only thing that is happening is the blades open and more air goes in. No more fuel is being added to the mix its not like a carb. I would almost think that the Idel air control is stuck or that you need to work on making the hole in the throttle blade a little bigger to let more air in. does the car have a cam or any mods?

I wonder if the mass air meter is sending the wrong reading to the pcm cause it to dump to much fuel on start up.
